I just began getting one of these each day on my mobile phone. I'll look through the forum to get rid of them (hopefully).

I get 1-3 calls from this number every weekday. I answer, there's silence, then a small beep and I'm disconnected. This has been happening for the last couple of weeks.

Scam alert! I was told this was the US government stating that 15,000 people a year are rewarded with grants from the government to use toward education, home repairs and the such. They stated that as long I was not 'using this money for drugs', they would transfer $8400 to my 'plastic card'. I gave them an inactive card I randomly received in the mail a few days ago. This was a pre-paid card. They asked what I was going to use the money for and told them for school. They wished me luck and told me to call Janet Berry at 202-905-0702. She answered the phone right away and asked for my grant #. I gave her the GN452 and she asked my first name. I gave it to her and she put me on hold "while I look up your file" after about 5 mins I hung up and reported it to the authorities!

Of course it's a scam.  Read all about it on the FTC website:

Caller stated, I could receive $8400 for use on, bills, education, Rx, home improvement, no drugs or xXx. He asked, what i use the funds for? I stated, home repair. Like he documented that. The needed my bank account# to transfer the funds or put them on plastic (visa/mc) card (Beware moment).  Hmmm. I googled them while I had the caller on the phone, the closest web page I found was "Premier", a pay deposit repair your credit CC. Premeir usuaslly charges some outrageous 1 time processing fee and a reoccurring ridiculous annual fee.  Both fees devour the meger CC limit extended to you. I hate this crap!

I just got a phone call from this number saying I was randomly selected by the government to receieve a $6,000 grant to help towards school or to pay off debt. They said I wouldn't have to pay it back. I kept telling her I hadn't heard of the grant and I asked her the name of it and she just kept saying she was from the government. She asked for an account number a few times, but I told her I didn't want to give her my bank info over the phone, so I asked if they could just send a check. She said it's a bank-to-bank grant. So I asked her to call back and looked it up. I found a fraud alert on grants.gov (official site of government grants) saying "Fraud Alert: If you have been contacted by someone seeking your bank account or other personal information in order to process a government grant that you did not apply for, Submit A Complaint [EXIT Disclaimer] with the Federal Trade Commission." Must be fake, I doubt she'll call back.

I just got a phone call from the same number stated above. He stated that he was calling from the US Treasury Department and that I was selected to receive some grant money. When I asked him how he got my number, he replyed that I was randomly selected. Well then, "How do I know this is not a fraud?" he seemed annoyed by my question and hang up on me. When I dialed back the phone number, it gave me a busy signal, I am guessing he was using land line.

Wow. Just wow... An AMAZING conversation. "Max"  from WashingTONE (his pronunciation) (via New Delhi) offered the same scam. I offered to give him all the info he needed re:my bank, & then send it to HIS bank for all his hard work. I just needed his banking info. He was not amused.

WHY do these things still exist? Are there that many suckers still walking the Earth?
