I am not sure if this call from the IRS or not?

There is a widespread IRS or "tax scam" being  practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

I just received a voicemail saying it was the IRS with the callback number 202-793-8675.  The display showed "Out of Area"  720-598-6574, not an IRS number.  Thanks for the info, Slim.  :)

Got the same call.  The caller ID said 654-226-5548 with the call back of 202-793-8675.  The IRS will send certified letters or then file a lien.  They never call and say they are going to sue us.  

I just received an automated call from (721)593-6524 identifying themselves as the IRS telling me to call (202) 793-8675. I recognized the (202) as a Washington number. I did call no answer....now I'm worried that I'm in some crooks phone bank. Any suggestions for further action?

Actually, what they say is that they are calling from Internal Revenue Services - NOT Service, but Services.  And, as noted below, IRS never (and legally cannot) initiate an action against a taxpayer via telephone.

Yep.  Gotta call this morning.  since I screen my calls and do not answer any numbers I don't recognize, I didn't pick up the call.  They left what sounded like a computer generated message, female voice.  The message stated that this was their final notice from the IRS, the I needed to call 202-793-8675, that the IRS was filing a lawsuit against me.  Then it repeated the phone number.
However, the caller ID number that came through was 413-083-5567.  When I google that number, it doesn't exist.

Thanks for the link, Slim.  I think I'm going to file a complaint, and I'm going to make sure I let the other members in my household in on this, so they know NOT to answer/respond to any of these calls, or if they get similar emails.

IRS tax scam said from IRS final notice

I just received a call from 728-593-6584.  The automated message says This is my final warning and I am being sued by the IRS, Internal Revenue Service|s|.  I called the call back number 202-793-8675 and gave them my number.  They did not have my name.  He said I was Sherry. Then he was calling me Melisa and He said I was from Bigelow AK. I told him no, and he stated they have the wrong number. It is a FDPCA violation to leave voice messages threatening to sue.  I reported it.

Message should read **FDCPA violation.  Sorry about that.

The scam tipped me off by having WAY too good of information without asking me for any identification info: iasweve all experienced they suck at having your info at their fingertips

Caller: "202"  arewa  code  fraus  scam  calls

received a call from 1-413-987-5527 saying through a recorded message that this was my final notice from the IRS that I needed to call 1-202-793-8675, that the IRS was filing a lawsuit against me. I have checked and dozens of people have reported the same message and same phone number. IT IS A SCAM.

Block them! There are devices for land lines and apps for cell phones that simply hang up on suspicious numbers. My call came from (723) 592-6534; call-back number was (202) 793-8675. You others are correct in saying that legitimate contact from the IRS arrives via USPS (mail). If IRS has official biz with you, expect a certified letter.

I just received the same bogus IRS call form 202-793-8675.  If you receive one of these do NOT respond-it is  a scam.

I received a call from 413-385-5557 saying it was an official call from the IRS and a final notice that the IRS is filing a lawsuit against me and had a call back number 202-793-8675. I did not respond. I found this site while researching the phone number. Thanks for the info.
