It was a Verizon Wireless survey -- don't know if they were actually from Verizon, but asked if we'd be switching and if we were happy with our service, etc.

These people should be taken out at sundown and shot.  In this day and age, it is outrageous that such harassment cannot simply be swiftly dealt with and the telephone number they use disconnected forever and as often as they come up with a new number for that matter.  What is going on the with FTC and their widely publicized attempts to stop this nonsense?

This was a robocall from the Communication Workers of America asking you to press 1 to be connected with your member of Congress to tell them "how you feel about this legislation" (obviously something the Union is against).  Guessing this is a robocall company with a lot of clients, and will equally harrass everyone they can get away with.

In my case it was from PETA for a conference call w/local pols about animal abuse.  Weird how the number has so many affiliations, perhaps it's a number used for call ins ?

This was a legitimate call from PETA, which I am a member of.  It was to notify me of a meeting coming up.

In my case, it was also from PETA, about a call-in event. It was excessively long.  My phone identified it as "local call", but I live in California, not DC. I am also a PETA member, so the call may have been legit, but it was still annoying. I wonder if it was really PETA.

Jenni, I wonder if the call really came from PETA. In your case, did it remind you of an event that you know was actually happening? ~Lynne

Yes, it was really a legitimate voicemail from PETA for a telephone conference "town hall" meeting coming up.

I also have received the same message from Ingrid Newkirk at PETA.  I am a member, but do find the calls annoying.  As listed previously, the number shows as a local call, but I am in Milwaukee, WI.

Mine was a robocall from Women for Women International, also regarding a call-in event. It seems to be a provider of this service for non-profit and other organizations. I'm guessing they outsource it so they don't have to use their own staff resources. Oddly enough, mine also showed up as "Local Call" in the caller ID.

    Annoyed
I too received a call from this number. My caller ID showed "Local Call", which I knew it couldn't be with an area code of 202. The robo voice was hard to understand (some kind of accent), but she did say to press a number to join in. Well, I needed to go wash my hair so I let it go. While I was in the bathroom, I could hear that one-sided conversation going on and on. I think it was PETA as I heard something about not using animal fur in clothing. It must have been a graphic message because my cat came running in the bathroom with ears laid back. When I was wrapping my hair up in a towel, that message finally finished. When I went back to my phone, they used up the entire time for messages.
    • Caller: PETA?
