- RICH SHAMEL| 10 repliesA man speaking broken english identified himself as Frank Anderson with The Treasury Dept. I told him that " I" was not here and to leave a number. He then gave me the 202-821-1155 number. I tried calling back but it was always busy.
- Caller: Treasury Dept.
- Ace P. replies to RICH SHAMELSame here. Except his name was Nelson Ayalla. Have not called back yet.
- RexIRS replies to RICH SHAMEL| 6 repliesConfirmed fraud attempt (tax audit department of US Treasury script). This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.
2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back directly (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances- amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)
3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf). - Charlie| 3 repliesI received a phone call from an "Unknown" phone number and let it go to voice mail. The caller actually left a message which surprised me as this type of call usually do not leave a message. He spoke in broken English which made it hard to understand to start with and indicated that his name was Frank Anderson ( first clue that call was suspicious ) and that he was with the Dept. of Legal Affairs and that he had to speak with me regarding a legal matter that is being brought against me. He indicated that I call him back at this number to discuss it. I have not called and checked the number in a search and this is what led me to this site. Just want to let everyone know that they are switching tactics.
- Caller: Dept. of Legal Affairs (Supposed)
- Johnny T.I just received a similiar call from a Stacy, I called the number back and she went through her very official sounding call stating that I owed back taxes and it was too late to handle this with my CPA who did my taxes, I was informed that I needed to hire a Criminal Attorney, and that within 45 minutes the paperwork will be presented to me by the COPS (yes she said cops), and I would be taken into custody for the next 3 months, I asked her to please confirm that it was the COPS that would be coming to arrest me, and at that point she humg up on me, I did a search on the number they left and it led to this, it was scary though that they had the last 4 digits of my social, I hope anyone that gets this call at least web searches the number and isn't taken in by these Criminals, I fully intend to write my representative in Congress to address this any way they can.

I just received a call here at my business... it came up under 315-635-9781
But it sounded suspicious when he asked for me by name ... I said "she's unavailable, can I take a message?"
He sounded like Squiggly from Laverne and Shirley...
He said it was regarding a legal case and his name was Edward Williams... and that I was wanted by the police.
He gave me a phone number to call back. 202-821-1155
First I called back the 315 number which showed up in the caller ID and it said it was not in service.
I haven't tried the other number yet. I'm pretty sure it's a scam.
Losers!!!! - SynathCalled from an unknown number and left a message stating he was "Danny Aurturo from the IRS and US treasury dept and that there was legal proceedings against me and to call him back at 202-821-1155." - Coco| 1 replyReceived a call - no caller ID visible - from an either Indian or Pakistani male with a broken English asking me whether I knew that there is a Legal case against me. Suggested to call 202-821-1155 and give the person my phone number & that they can pull the file and tell me about it. Called the number out of curiosity - No one available at the other end & Mail Box full and can't take any messages. Pretty sure it is a scam.
- Geri replies to Charlie| 2 repliesI received this message also. He said that his name was Danny. He was with the dept. of legal affairs, with the dept. of treasury. He left a message, but didn't call me by name. A legal matter was being started against me. If I didn't call myself, then I should have my retained (I think that's what he said) paid person to call. He was foreign. The number to call was (202) 821-1155.
- GeriI received a call from Danny. He was with the dept of legal affairs with the dept of treasury. He was giving me a courtesy call about legal matters that were being started against me. I needed to call him back as soon as possible. If I couldn't, then I should have my retained paid (I believe that's what he said) person call. The number to call is (202) 821-1155.

Speaker was "Danny Archer" of the "Department of Legal Affairs, US Treasury" who wanted to speak to me about a pending legal action initiated against me. They encouraged that I or my retained attorney call 202-821-1155 for information. This is the second such call. On the first call, I told them to send it to me by U.S. Mail. Mail fraud is a federal offense.

- Tim Jones| 2 repliesI received a call in broken English. The caller clearly doesn't understand how IRS operates. This is one of their scripts.
“This message is intended to contact Jonathan. Hi, this is Rob – Robert Williams with the Department of Legal Affairs at the U.S. Treasury, and I was trying to reach you in regards to a very important issue. The number to reach me is xxx.xxx.xxxx. If for any reason you are busy to call back, I would suggest you to have your retain attorney to do it for you, as delay in calling us might end up into a legal mess for you. Until then, have a blessed day and God bless.” - firstposition| 2 repliesJust received a call from Danny Archer from Dept of Legal Affairs at US Treasury. Phone number 202-821-1155.
