Debt collector states you will be arrested if you do not pay.  Would not give company name just said they were from investigations

Just got a phone call from these people. They are scammers, they say they are from attorney office of fraud department and are trying to collect a debt. They threatened to have me arrested Then stated I had two hours to pay or They would issue a warrant for my arrest. So I called the original place I owed the debt to and they said it was a fraud call ! Beware this A scam!!!

I was called and told the exact samething Josh was told that I had 2hrs to pay or I would be locked up. Kinda scared me at first but after talking to family and friends I am convinced this is an action of fraud.

When you get one of these from a "Tough-guy" collector, tell them you are recording the call, please state your name and the company you are trying to collect for and that you find them VERY amusing....
Then let them talk and say nothing.When they stop talking tell them "go on","Continue" or "is that you got?".... usually the calls stop pretty quickly.....

The woman  called said I had two hours to pay 900 bucks but when I convinced her all  that  I had was 200 she had me do a moneygram at walmart and send the money. I was suppose to be doing this every two weeks until the 900 was paid for! I am glad I found this site! Thanks so much!

called and said that they were calling because there were checks i wrote.well we have a person that deals with that in our county they need to get a life and stop calling consumers that they think is dumb

They call my ex mother in law that lives in Chicago and they left her a message and saying they need to contact me about forged checks. and That I need to contact my lawyer right away. When I called the lady who called the voicemail came on and her name is Susan Mccall she didnt even say where she is from

I called the number to find out what they really wanted and said that I have got a pay day loan back in 2008 and that I was going to go to jail once they locate me they said they work for attorney office for Advance America.. So I had called Advance America they told me they are a third party scam artist. and they are already being investigated. And for me not to worry. I was almost in tears. they were so rude on the phone as well. I am tempted to call back and tell them that they are lying. and to kiss my [***]

The day before Thanksgiving they called my mother's house stating there was a warrant for my arrest for check fraud and I needed to call them right away. needless to say I was in tears thinking I was going to jail for something I didn't do. I called them and they told me they were the Virginia States Attorney's Office representing Advance America for a payday loan I had in 2008. They also wanted me to pay $900 by money gram in 2 hours. THANK GOD I didn't have any money or I probably would have sent it to them. I called my sister to try and borrow it from her and she was able to calm me down and help me realize this was an attempted scam. I called them back and tried to ask THEM specific questions about what the name of their company was, their address, phone number, etc. and they hung up on me. I called my local police department, who advised me to file a complaint with the FBI Dept of Consumer Protection. The phone number for anyone that needs it is 800-552-9963.
