- byronTax scam, I presume. Called 7:58PM EDT. last evening (Oct. 18). I recorded the message.
Male voice, no particular accent:
"If you still owe money to the IRS, you might be in the "collection stage" and drastic actions are underway. Press 1 now to speak to a tax advisor for more information. Press 2, if this does not apply to you."
I was tempted to press 1 just to waste their time, but figured I'd also be wasting my own time as well and its always the wisest policy to have as little interaction with crooks as possible.- Caller: Washington DC

- anonymousanswered, no one there, hung up on
- JenniferAutomated caller to our office, a male voice trying to sound authoritative and slightly frightening / threatening, saying that we might be in collections with the IRS. By the time it was saying to press 1, I was laughing too hard and chose to just hang up. Obvious SCAMMER, and probably a spoofed caller ID number because 202 = DC = government thinking.
- Caller: Lied about being IRS related

- pj| 1 replyHow can this still be a thing? These guys were arrested in india just a couple of weeks ago. Why would anyone be so stupid to fall for this. IRS needing you to purchase gift cards .....really
- Tygerkat replies to pjSome people are just scared. They hear IRS and think they're in trouble. Not everyone knows that group of scammers was arrested and not everyone knows the IRS will contact you by mail, not phone. That's what websites like this one are for.
