I got a call from this number saying he was calling from IRS and that "a warrant had been issued because there was a serious error in my tax return" . There is no error in my tax return and the IRS does not issue warrants for errors. He asked that I call back at the same number and talk to Mr Mark Brown. I scared him by telling him that I had called the police when he had called me earlier and left a similar message, and they were tracking where he was calling from and would soon be there. I did call the number, the same person, with a strong accent answered, but he probably recognized my voice and did not talk further.

1) The IRS doesn't call people.
2) Don't even entertain these call. Call them back can backfire.
3) Report the calls to the FTC and the FCC.

I received the exact same message just a few minutes back and it was the same person. This is the third time he is calling. I did not answer the phone and he left a voicemail.

I got the same call several times. Guy with a heavy eastern accent, says He's from the IRS. is name was Derrick May, but I'll bet it was the same guy. Had a similar call from an African-American male saying there was a grievance filed against my company and that I had to call back to settle or else it would go to collections. This guy called 5 times before the calls stopped.
What's with these rash of calls! We tried to call local PD but they were not interested.

I got a call from this number. A weirdo spoke with fake accent claiming that he is from IRS. These jokers never stop until trying to get someone fall into their tricks.

They are calling me too and left a message that I would be deported to my country of origin- born in Texas. Lol- whatever!!!

I received two recorded message from "IRS" wanting me to call back this number.  First one did not have 9 digits in caller ID, second one showed "unknown" in caller ID both message the same.  last notification from IRS, they are filing a lawsuit, blah blah call 202-864-1157

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:

1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back directly (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances - amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://m.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-centr ... mmission-320427). Got a call from 202 864 1157,  about a law suit from the irs. People need to get lives and stop destroying the world and the good people in it !

My Dad received yet another predatorial call, this time from this phone#.  He calls me in a panic over someone calling him pretending to be an authority threatening legal action or collections nearly twice a week.  It seems that a large # of these calls are targeted to retired/disabled persons, which begs the question: Where are these scammers getting their targets from?

People, let's not abandon common sense... I'm sure that most of us would agree that any legitimate agency would contact us by an official mailing if there were truly some threat of sanctions, especially the government.  Keeping a cool head, and applying common sense should keep many people from scammed like this.

Got a call from 202-864-1157 saying it was the IRS. Stupid drone voice made me laugh out loud, I've had so many of these robot generated calls from establishments that don't do these sorts of things.  Oh well I had my laugh for the day!

I just received a voice mail "official" call from 202-864-1157 saying the IRS was filing a lawsuit against me.  Thank goodness I found the scam number listed here!  Thank you

I got this same call. They left me voicemail. I just went to the IRS treasury scam website and reported it

I do no think he new a tat about taxation. a scam. asked why so many calls, a letter would be more appropriate. Then he stated that I called him. Hahahahaha,,, then he gets flustered and states that he is only trying to scare his girlfriend and thought my number was hers. hahahaha NOT.

I just got a call as well. I was watching the news and this is a serious scam that is sweeping the nation. Do not give them money. Don't call them back. It's a scam.

This person told me she is from IRS and ask me to call her back, I didn't of course.

This number, 202-864-1157, called our house, claiming to be the IRS, informing us that the IRS was about to file a law suit against us for tax fraud.  I see on Google, Bing, and dozens of other websites that thousands of people have reported this fraud and abuse.  WHY is this telephone number STILL being allowed to operate????
