I received a recorded call this morning claiming there was an IRS lawsuit against me and was instructed to call 202-864-1218.  When I did a person by the name of "Max Campbell" with an India accent answered and claimed to be from IRS started asking for my name.  When I asked him to verify that he is was from the IRS he told me to look up his number and callback.  Then he hung up.

Hi I received a call from this number also saying I have an IRS lawsuit.  I returned call to let them know they had the wrong number.  The man was rude and told me they don't make mistakes and I would be sorry when the cops came to my door.

Yep, I got the voice message also today (5/21/2014).  "John Smith" (with an Indian accent!?) called "from the IRS."  Said the IRS was suing me and the issue is "prime sensitive."  If I didn't call back "the situation falls on you."  Too funny.  Pure scam.

5/21/14-Recieved numerous recorded calls to contact IRS regarding lawsuit being brought against me.  The call back number was 202-864-1218.  The call stated if you do not return call, you are responsible for what is to follow......or something to that effect.  Of course I did not return the call because if the IRS was going to sue me this IS NOT how they would contact me.  Additionally, there would be multiple contacts between a party & the IRS before a lawsuit by the IRS is filed!
Please people do not fall for this scam.  These people are trying to steal your identity by obtaining personal information.

I got the same as most of you. I was told there was a lawsuit by the IRS (never said my name, foreign accent). I was told the name to call back: A John Brown 202.864.1218. This person called  my cell. The call seemed "odd" and I will not call back.

Got my IRS call from an Indian sounding male, gave name of Robin Brown. He informed me that he was calling about the lawsuit filed against me by the IRS and if I didn't call back immediately  the"situation would unfold on me". He never used my name, just"you" and the phone number he gave to call is 202 864 1250. Got 4 calls in two days.

I received a call from 202-864-1218.  It was a recorded message, telling me that the IRS was instituting a lawsuit against me and that I should call the number stated before immediately.  The IRS would never contact a taxpayer in this manner.  So please beware of recorded messages claiming they are from the IRS.

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.
    Read http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
    1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

    2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back directly (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances- amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

    3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf). Received a call from "IRS" or so he said. He was Indian, Henry Parker Badge # DZ3434 case 1928. He told me a law suite was already in progress and was I willing to pay $5992.00. He was rude and the connection was bad. Urgency was of the most importance he said. The sheriff would be at my house to seize drivers license and personal property. We were cut off mid-way through our conversation. I called back and the phone kept ringing with no answer. If it was the IRS I'm sure they would have somebody who could speak English. After reading these posts I see now it is a scam. Thanks everybody. He scared the hell out of me.
