I received a message stating they were the IRS and to call back 202-864-1235.  I called it back knowing it was a scam.  He could hardly speak English.  When I asked who he was with he said the IRS.  I asked for his ID # and he gave me 88860900.  When I told him I was going to check on his ID number he hung up on me.

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back directly (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances- amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A little more information about this call.  I received a call  (which I did not answer).  My caller id had 937-567-3661 listed as the phone # of the caller.  A voice message was left that I should call the IRS since the are filing a lawsuit against me.  The number I am to call is 202-864-1235 for more information.  I'm ignoring this.  Just putting it out there for the benefit of others.  The Attorney General in Delaware has been investigation this type of SCAM.

I had a message, actually a poorly recorded message, stating it was from the IRS and it was the last attempt to contact me before, then the message was so bad I couldn't make out what the person said.  The message continued on to say to call the IRS at 202-864-1235.  My caller ID shows the number to be 930-567-3641.  I know I don't owe the IRS, so I am ignoring this and if they know what is good for them they better not call back. Tired of the BS scammers!!

I recd this message today didnt call it back poor audio on the recording.

I got a call from 715-201-9226 (a WI number) it was such a bad automated recording it had to be false.

It's a scam!

Received a message from them telling me the IRS was going to sue and to call 224-303-5930.
No way!

SPAM.
They claimed to be the IRS.
They called me from
(936) 567-3671 & (719) 201-3256 and told me to call back at 2028641235.

I received a call from "irs" and they demanded money or my property and bank account will be seized or I go to jail for 5years. These scammers were with the strong Indian accent.

I received a call stating the IRS is filing a lawsuit against me and to call back. When I called back I questioned whether it was really the IRS.the guy was cursing at me and hung up on me.

I received a voice mail about an IRS lawsuit against me. I still have the voice mail.

I keep receiving phone calls
from:202-241-8281 and 202-864-1235 stating thay are from IRS
and that i owe from IRS claim  from 2008-2010= 1,243.00

I was told a lawsuit was going to be placed on my account from the irs.

This was second time and it was a recorded message from 938-566-3651 telling me that the IRS filed a lawsuit against me, and I should immediately call 202-864-1235. It took place yesterday Nov.6th
First phone call of that sort I received on 11/4 from 917-381-3783. The guy with heavy accent was telling me that Treasury Dept. filed lawsuit against me and they send two letters to my address (he knew my name and address) and because I failed to respond right now they are sending an officer to arrest me or I could just pay $1289.00 to the account on the website they will provide me with.
Although I am clean I got scared....Later after I talked to some people we decided it is a scam. There should be a fast and direct way to punish  criminals like this!!!!

I got an automated call today from, (938) 566-3651, claiming they are the IRS. They have apparently been trying to contact me for a while now and that I am being sued for not paying up to the IRS.They gave me another contact number to call but I cant remember it. mmkay scammers, thanks for the heads up.
