Got threatening call stating that we did not file certain forms with the IRS. Claimed to be the attorney Gary Naftalis. Stated we are being subpoenaed and will likely lose our house, car, license. Very rude and did not even know state abbreviations. SCAM!

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.
    Read http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
    1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

    2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back directly (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances- amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

    3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf). I just got a call from this number with the same heavy foreign accent, but telling me that Officer Danny Kukor of the Sex Crimes Unit was trying to reach me and "things would be worse" if I didn't return the call. I figured it was a scam.

I got a call from this number this morning leaving a message.  He said it was from Officer Sean Connor stating he's from the Federal Investigation Department and that he's received a complaint against this address. He went on to warn me to not ignore this message or there will be legal action taken against me.  He not only had a hostile tone of voice but also came across very uneducated so I knew something had to be up.

I received a call from this number and the same heavy accent speaking in a recorded message saying that the IRS is trying to file a complaint against me because I have not filed my taxes correctly for the last 4 years. I called the number right back and the same voice answered the phone and asked if he could verify it was me speaking to him before he could give any info to me. He got very agitated when I said I have filed my taxes properly and what is the complaint against me, then lost connection on the line. Whether he hung up or the call was dropped,  idk.

I, also, received a message from the same number & the same guy claiming to be Lt. Dwight Prescott. The message was very harsh. Luckily, I didn't believe it from the beginning. I just google the number and I am very grateful to find this page. Hopefully, this will help others as well :)

Received a recording on my home phone. Person with accent claiming with Federal Investigation Bureau of IRS said a complaint was filed against my address. Ask to call back. I called and someone as Officer John Turner asked my phone number to retrieve my records. The call was disconnected shortly.

We received two voice mails 12/3 from same phone number (202)864-1365 claiming to be Federal Investigation Bureau for Internal Revenue Service.  Same person left message with heavy India accent first as Officer Gavin Johnson and second as Officer Lloyd Prescott. He said there is a legal complaint filed again my husband's name and physical address.  We should not try to disregard this message and return call. At the end of the first call he said thank you and God Bless. At the end of the second call he sounded threatening and said that it's urgent basis and we have sole responsibility for legal action.

I would hate to have this caller threatening elderly people who actually answer the call or return the call all the while claiming to be with the IRS. Please investigate this fraudulent phone call. Thanks, Cindy Dulon

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.
