this number has been calling my house but not leaving a message.

Did some more research, this is an opinion poll for "Recorded message about gambling in Texas. No way to be removed from the calling list, no name of the company."
The number is coming out Washington D.C.;  It's not surprising as many cities are going bankrupt they are scurring for capital instead of just cutting wasteful spending / cost.
Houston, TX and Galveston, TX are both looking into (politians mouths are watering) legalizing gambling....

probably something to do with the phone calls.. at least it is a name that has something to do with all our phone calls.. :-)

The Washington, DC based telephone number 202-870-5056 is listed as a cellular telephone.  According to website that provides reverse phone look-up, it looked like the call was originating from a road North of Constitution.  (See a Washington DC map.)  

Our caller ID report shows it called our house at 16:02 CST on December 28, 2010, 19:47 CST in December 29, 2010.  

Our phone is on, and has been since the first few days of having it, as a non-published number.  

Returning the phone call does not help.  It goes no where.  Have tried it twice on two different days.  The first time it rang with no answer.   The second time it did not ring.  It almost seemed like it was trying to pick up an international call.  

Hopefully this helps the FCC and others who have had their privacy invaded.

Someone listed it as a "political call."  In my mind if someone calls and hangs up, it's a prank.  So, I listed it as a prank.

No message no useful ID.  If I do happen to answer an "opinion poll", I make it a point to give them bizarre and conflicting answers to mess up their statistics. If it's actually a person on the other end of the line, I like to regale them with stories about my guns, my drinking problems, my pit bulls, my recent divorce, etc.,  I just keep talking until they hang up.  If you really want my opinion, mail me a survey and a SASE;  otherwise I don't trust your intent.  Oh, by the way, I'm on the do-not-call list, which I extend to surveys even if the law doesn't.  Don't call me, or you'll get peculiar answers and an ear-full about my broken transmission.

i am in albuquerque nm and just started getting these calls, i have never answered...and they leave no message

I'm in Santa Fe, NM I have been receiving these call but they leave no messages. I'm on the do not call list also.

received a call from this number, didn't answer since I didn't recognize the number. My voice mail recorded part of an automated public opinion survey about the mayor's race in Madison, WI.

Wisconsin's no-call law excludes calls like this.

This number has called three times in the last hour. it rings about twice before they hang up. If I call back, the phone beeps and my cell says "Call Ended". Doesn't even ring.

As of right now, this number has called me multiple times today and it is a phone survey for public opinion on the presidential caucus in Iowa.  I don't know how they got my number nor do I know how to be removed from the list but it is starting to annoy me greatly.

just got one from that # and said 'whoever is this idiotic, I have *69, so I just copy the # and call Holder @ Justice and the local FBI, so long...'

Received a call with a bulls**t political poll about Illinois taxes and borrowing...it was ridiculously amateur, and very skewed toward the Republican view.  I can't believe anybody would pay this firm for such bad polling.

second nite = hopefully answered all questions opposite of what they wanted - called back - got fax tone = sent 358 page fax appologizing if number was hashed

Got a call from the same number, I just get a long continuous beeeeeeeeepppppppppp when I try to call back.

Spam They  take my phone from Craiglist.
