This is an IRS scam - luckily I didn't answer, and when I called back the # luckily he didn't answer....then I started looking into it...on my caller ID it showed is was the IRS # - 800-829-1040, but the very thickly Indian accented man horribly tried to pronounce my name and that he was from the "Invesigative" department of the IRS and that there has been report of tax fraud - he stated the last 4 of my SS# and said to call him back at this 202-905-0701 # immediately to avoid being arrested.  Again, luckily he didn't answer when I called that #.  I then decided to call the IRS# which told me the wait would be 30 minutes....ugh...in the meantime I looked online and found this warning about IRS telephone scams... http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Reiterate ... -Telephone-Scam
DO NOT GIVE IN TO THIS SCAM....since I was lucky enough to miss his call and he missed mine, I am not sure what they want or ask for, but do not call them back - REPORT THEM!!!!

I had 3 voice mails from the same individual that Jennifer posted about above.  He stated the same information on the messages.  I called my accountant and he confirmed that IRS does not call or email you.

The thickly accented caller was definitely a tip off.  He put me on hold and nobody came on the line.  I hung up and googled the number.  Glad to know it is bogus.

So same for me as well, except I am calling him all day.  It has kind of turned into a joke now.  Does anyone have an email address for this guy?

Today is the 3rd time I got this "IRS" call, here's how it worked (when I got first such call 2 months ago) -

I talked to the guy while googling incoming number, and google did show it as official IRS number. He knew my address, my wife's SSN and her employer, and said a tax criminal investigation was under my wife's SSN. They had several guys, some with heavy accents, but a "director" spoke normal American English. They claimed to work in DC and when I asked questions, he sternly warned me that I was wasting "federal time". He said only option to avoid being arrested is to pay them right then while they were connected. He used big words like "Offer In Compromise" and EFTPS (Electronic Federal Tax Payment System). Then a guy from "accounting department" would warn me not talk to anybody around me due to secret nature of the investigation and then direct me to walk to the bank, get the cash, go to a nearby RadioShack (that he found based on the zip code and street I gave him over phone) and to buy some pre-paid cash cards. And that's when I said I need more time to finish the payment. He was angry and said something like get ready to be arrested and hang up. They called me again right away but I didn't answer this time.

I asked AT&T and they said they can not track this call, I don't believe it, with today's technologies and systems, AT&T can't track a call?

    Still Laughing
"Frank Jefferson with the IRS" called my home phone the other day, didn't realize it was an answering machine and began to have an argument with it. Then he realized what he was doing, hung up and ACTUALLY CALLED BACK! He left a message with very poor verbiage, telling me to "listen very carefully" and proceeded to threaten me with a "lawsuit on my name". So I recorded a nice message for him next time he calls, telling him if he would press the #3 he will be directly connected to the FTC. What a moron.
