- Just a guy| 1 replyI absolutely hate this company.. They have 2 trillion phone numbers. Everytime I add one to the block list they use another.
- Noir| 17 repliesI just block all numbers not in my contacts
I answered them once, and they refused to identify themselves
generally dont give them too much time to say anything- Call type: Debt collector
- robThey keep calling for a bill I all ready settled. ..
- Call type: Debt collector
- NR| 4 repliesThey are trying to attempt to collect on an account that the company made me claim on my taxes, credit cards were stolen after many attempts to get the credit card company to clear the account, they closed it. Portfolio Recovery tries to collect on this card, so I told them look I just had to claim this on my taxes so go where the sun does not shine.
FYI. If a credit card company takes a loss and sends you something to claim on your taxes, this means they cannot sell the account. Look up consumer rights on debt collection.
Portfolio Recovery buys these accounts from these credit card companies & tries to collect the amount they wrote off and you added to your taxes (by the way that is income on your taxes).
So by all rights your debt is paid. Portfolio Recovery is doing this illegal.- Caller: Portfolio Recovery

- Bandhouse| 2 repliesNR. It's not illegal what they are doing, just immoral. They are bottom feeders, plain and simple. They purchase "Zombie" debts for 2 cents on the dollar and just hound you trying to get you to pay them. They will never go away.
It usually says in the fine print on their mailers that they can no longer report this on your credit report and they WILL NOT sue you for it simply because they cannot due to the age of the debt. Regardless, they still try. Only fools give them any money.
I like messing with them. Try it and have fun. I lead them on and on, on the phone. "Yes, I really want to clear this up and would love to do so. Please tell me what my options are?" I let their flunky go thru his/her offer and then say, " OK, Let's set up a payment date for............. (Wait for it) ..................... June 1, of Two Thousand and NEVER!!!!"
then I hang up.

- Angellee15| 1 replyThe last time they called my house I told them they had the wrong number - they haven't called there since. They keep calling my cell phone even though I've told them like 4 times that it's a work number and not to call it again (because they always call while I'm at work!). They just called again but hung up before I could answer. I just put them in my contacts as a *forward to voicemail* number.

- madisonI got a call from this number repeatedly on Friday for several weeks, since the caller didn't leave a message, I didn't bother to answer.
- Fido replies to Just a guyJust do like I do... don't answer numbers that you are not in your contact list!!! Problem solved!!! or tell them to F.O. when they call or better yet.... have a friend answer your phone and see if they disclose your personal information to them make sure the call is recorded then they will pay your debt for you :) due to "third party disclosure laws" FDCPA. hope this helps
An Ex Bill Collector - Fido replies to Angellee15If the bill collector keeps calling your cell phone, particulary after you've notified him that it's not a convenient time or place to take the calls, or that you are incurring usage charges for the calls, you can sue the collector in Small Claims Court for damages. You may also wish to consult with an attorney about the violations. To learn more, see the articles and Q&As in Illegal Debt Collection Practices. You can find more info by Googling: Fair Debt Collection Practice Act
Hope this helps,
An ex bill collector - SassyJust blow a whistle in there ear. My mom did this to a collector that was looking for my brother who has died 2 years ago. They would not stop calling her and harassing her after she did that they never called her again.
- FEDUP!Got a call from this number, I answered it because I was at the store and thought it was a business call, I didn't realize it was a number not to answer! Caller ID says Geraldine B Santi!
She asked for me! I said I was unavailable, she asked for another number I could be reached at, I said there wasn't one, she then asked how do I reach her when I need her and who is this I'm speaking to! I said "THAT'S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!" She told me to have a blessed day.
Number is blocked! All the debt in my name is OLD like over 4 yrs old and according to everything I have read, it isn't good to open those old debts because it starts the period for it staying on your credit report longer! I want it to drop off my report in the next 3 yrs, not last longer! - DevanDebt collection that I don't have

- mess replies to Bandhouseif the debt has been claimed on income taxes it is illegal for the company to sell it or for another company to try to collect the debt as the debt is no longer...you don't get to double dip...claim it as an expense and then force someone else to claim it as income and then they still have to pay...

Why are you allowing posts on this site to turn into hateful rhetoric?
People who want to argue politics should not be allowed to post, or their posts should be deleted.
This number called my husband's phone. We have no debt. He didn't answer (as many people have stated...don't answer unknown calls...if they're that important, they'll leave a message) and this number has been blocked.
As to people who troll websites like this just to be hateful, it's best to treat them like the calls...don't answer them.- Call type: Debt collector
- kate replies to NR| 2 repliesThank you I was not aware of that (taxes). I appreciate you posting this I won't make that mistake again.
Constant calls, never leave messages, & if I answer no one's speaks for like 15 sec so I hang up.
Are all calls supposed to be before 8pm? - anonymous replies to kate| 1 replyI believe the legal times creditors and bill collectors can call is between 8:00am - 9:00pm in your time zone. For me, it is those hours central time. California (for example) would be 8am-9pm pacific time, etc. If they call before or after those times, then they are violating the law.
- Peter replies to NRYou're wrong on this. A creditor writing off the debt means that they wrote the debt off their books as an asset at its full value. It has no bearing on whether that debt is legally collectible or not.
- anonymousthey answered is SO SO ok, to trick me, I told them wrong number and hung up. Its a debt collector with out a doubt.
