***A company must be licensed in their state as well as the one they are trying to collect in if two different states are involved.
Some Tips:
*Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time, date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.

- k| 2 repliesI admit I have debt...I am making regular payments. They have called ex husband's father divorced 20 years ago and said I listed him as a next of Kin. They have called friends. I answered to tell them to stop harassing and their response is the police will be making a visit and they will call everyone I know if they want to!

- Me replies to k| 1 replyThey cant threaten the police, its against the FCRA. You can sue them for that
- bill collector replies to Meits against the fdcpa to provide false info to consumer including telling them that police will be call as that is threatening actions which is against the fdcpa. and you can sue if it actually happened and if it was recorded
- DreamingThe lady barely spoke English, so I would be leary of giving her any information, even if it was a legit call, but after reading several of the messages here, I am shocked they are still able to be "up and running". The outstanding bill is in my name, but only after I took it out when I left and moved, and my (now deceased) estranged husband had one of his female friends put it back in my name, and they did so without question.
- Caller: No message or information
