I recieved 14 calls from this number in one day with one message left on voice mail from a man with a very strong accent stating he was officer Frank Harris and there was a dispute against me and my SS # and if I didn't call him back immediately then I would be arrested. They then proceeded to call my work where I told them NOT to call ever again! This is obviously a scam!

So I get this message on my answering machine about an urgent matter regarding federal charges being braught against me. So being the person I am I called the number back with my Lawyer. I have had a whole credit team that I signed up for ever since I was accused of purchasing a car, which I did not do at all. So apon calling the thick accented man he told me that I was liable for the loan reguardless of what. I kept telling him that I never got an online loan, but he wasnt tring to hear that. So I spoke to his boss, which sounded exactly like him, and he kept saying that I had to take care of this matter or the Plaintiffs would press charges immediately. They all kept saying the same thing, Take care of the matter so that It wouldnt be braught to the courts! I mean what should I do?

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:

I'm a police officer. And elderly victim came to the station because they told him he would be arrested by Alabama Sheriffs if he didn't send money. I called them and rattled their cages. The victim had the presence of mind to come to us. I think they like targeting the elderly. Yes, definitely file your complaint with FTC and put a report on file to refer to with your local PD. I also told the victim to tell them that his son is an FBI agent, US Marshall, etc. They don't seem to stay on the line long after that.

Do not call it back. It is a scam. The same number was reported to my Sheriff's Office as they claimed to be my Sheriff's Office. Our dispatchers called the number and they answered "Sheriff's Office" and our dispatcher's said "no, this is the Sheriff's Office". The person hung up of course. No legitimate law enforcement agency will EVER call and demand money over the phone. No legitimate civil action will call you and demand money over the phone.

    Never gonna fall for it
UNBELIEVABLE. With all of our technology, how in the world is the U.S. unable to stop these calls!!!! We have contacted the FBI and filed reports with our police departments - yet the calls keep coming. Is anyone out there working on ridding us of these harrasing, persistent, rude calls?  Why can't they be stopped?  How many reports have to filed? Do these foreign scam artists realize legit U.S.service providers never threaten the way they do?

Called me three times back to back to back just now. This is a scam. Left a message saying my social was under state criminal allegations. I don't even live in that state. Nor have I been there for over a year smdh. You can tell whom ever calls is ready from a script and is not American. They want money sent right away so they don't send out 'authority' to come to my house. This is absurd

These people keep harassing me. I was scared at first. Once he told me to go to Walgreens or Kmart to send the money I wished up. I called my local prosecutor and he told me it was a scam. A detective told me to call cell provider and have number blocked. When they repeated my SSN, I called my lawyer who reassured me of this scam and told me to tell them that I was on to their game. Hopefully it will work because this is scary. They all had heavy accents.
