My caller ID gives only NSR and the phone number.  I've been curious to see who is impolite enough to be calling at 9:00PM at night, even on the weekends. For about four days straight these calls have been incoming at almost exactly the same time, as if they are automated.

Tonight, I did a search and found several posts on different sites about this same caller.  He/she is apparently attempting to conduct a survey via telephone for a company called New South Research. That name would fit with the initials shown on my caller ID.

However, this caller is apparently unaware of a few things.  First and foremost, I do not answer my telephone that late at night unless it is a family member calling, which I would know about via caller ID.  Second, I NEVER - as in NOT EVER - would consent to doing a telephone survey, no matter what the topic. Third, even if the above two points didn't apply, I would not answer this particular caller so near my bedtime, since I do not wish to have my rest disturbed for an unimportant call.

One evening later this week, I'll probably answer the phone when my caller ID displays NSR again, and the caller on the other end will wish I had not done so... because I will rip him or her to shreds.

Obviously the employees of New South Research don't communicate among themselves very well. Last night, I received another call from said company. Once again, caller ID gives only NSR and the phone number 205-983-6133.

Between 21 Sept. and last evening, I answered one of the NSR calls. I told the woman that I do NOT do phone surveys. I was firm and even a little angry that she had disturbed my supper. She thanked me and hung up.

Last evening, I answered again, since the first message apparently went no further than the originator of the previous call. I told that woman I do NOT do phone surveys and do not want ANYONE from NSR calling here again.  We shall see what happens. I might have to get a lawyer to sue the company and the next caller from NSR personally.  This is bordering on harrassment.

I just recieved a phone call @ 20:00, caller ID showed NSR 205-983-6133. The lady said they are putting together a forum at Georgia Power to discuss energy issues and said that I would be paid $75.00 for two hours of my time. A few years ago I was living in Texas and a similar scam was occuring. While they had you at the bogus meeting, someone would break into your home and take more than $75.00 worth of your stuff. I declined the invitation. I too am listed with the National No Call Registry ... it looks like I wasted my time.

This is New South Research. They will only call you if you have signed up with their parent company to do focus groups, either product testing or question/answer sessions about products & services. Since they pay $50-100 per session, I answer the phone. I am a mystery shopper by trade and just happened upon these guys several years back. Pretty lucrative if you live in the areas they do groups.

My mother of 80 plus years has gotten three hang up calls from these people once at 6pm one at 8 pm and the last at 9:15pm tonight.  *69 it and it says this number can not receive incoming calls.  Now why is it they can call and harrass my mother and she can't call them back to ask that they not call back. I put her on the do not call list evry year and it never works.  Maybe we can get our wonderful President Obama to stop the calls at least most Americans would support that! Lol Sorry. Just say enough is enough and if asking isn't working then something else needs to be done.

That's not true at all. They call everyone. Not only do I not live where they are, my power company is a local company and does not rip off people like they do. You must work for this particular "survey" company. And I would never sign up to do such things.

No, they ARE a scam, or they wouldn't be calling people out of the blue late at night. They call everyone. Not only do I not live where they are, my power company is a local company and does not rip off people like they do. You must work for this particular "survey" company. And I would never sign up to do such things.

It's a legit company doing soliciting for opinion polls and focus groups.  Unfortunately, the DNC rules do not apply here.  Yes, it should be a matter of courtesy that if you ask them to remove your name from their list, that they do so, but that is not always possible, depending on the source of their call list and how the sample is created.

So you can ask them to stop, doesn't mean they will and it doesn't mean they're breaking the law if they don't heed your request, as they're in that legal loophole built in so politicians can call you and ask for your vote -- it's companies like these who politicians hire to do their polling.

Source -- for 21 years I owned and operated a company exactly like NSR.

That's bull they will call Anyone because I have signed up with no one ever. Ever since I got majicjack I have gotten all kinds of calls like this I think they sell your number to people like and with their service there is no way to block unwanted numbers.I think there should be a law making any phone company to have a way to block unwanted numbers. And should unlawful to give any one else your number other than law inforcement.

This company just called my home at 8:3pm from 205-983-6133. A very unprofessional woman who DID not identify herself nor where she was from. She told me she wanted to do a survey on my power and gas bills. I asked where she was calling from. It is New South research. She asked me who I received my power and gas from. This is laughable considering I live in birmingham alabama. The ONLY power company in the area is Alabama power. What a scam! I laughed and told her it doesn't matter what I think of my gas or power company. There isn't another company to change to. I laughed when I read a previous comment on here about homes being robbed. I kind of wondered the point of this "survey" that I didn't complete! Haha

I use to work for new south research. They call all over the US just depending on the type of survey they are doing. They are a legit company. And if you do a tast test or focus group with them they will pay you anywhere from $50-250.

Caller to me is New South Research. I signed up with them to do taste tests and focus groups. They called me to see if I qualify for a current study. I didn't tonight but last month I did one that netted $150 for an hour and a half interview. Got my pay in 3 days. If you didn't sign up, they're probably doing a survey.

For the record, I used to live in Birmingham, AL and can tell you that New South Research is a legitimate marketing research company and I've done surveys, taste tests, and mock trials for them for years.  The reason the call later in the day is because the majority of what they do is at night when most adults are off work.  I've always been very lucky with their call team, but do know that they do get new employees in and sometimes have a heavier load, so things get missed.  I can tell you from personal experience, this is a legitimate business and the money you make for many of these research opportunities is good and fast money for very little of your time and opinions.
