Have gave me the number to call back to - 206-201-2309. Said his name was John Richardson and was trying to give me government grant money. He said he needed my Debit card number to be able to transfer the money to my bank. I hung up and called the number back and Nick Richardson answered and said that they would transfer the money to the western union but I had to make a deposit of $150 first, for the government to make sure my identity was right...
I asked for a website to read up about the grant, he said usagovernmentgrants.org which came up but he said there was no information about the grant on the website because it was a preapproved universal grant to give money to the people.

They both had middle eastern accents
when the call came in it was from private number

    Government Grant Scams
Although government grant scams have been around almost as long as the government itself, the majority of the sites being advertised today didn't exist before the November 2008 election.

‘Free Government Grants’: Don’t Take Them For Grant-ed
excerpt from Federal Trade Commission CONSUMER ALERT

Don’t give out your bank account information to anyone you don’t know. Scammers pressure people to divulge their bank account information so that they can steal the money in the account. Always keep your bank account information confidential. Don’t share it unless you are familiar with the company and know why the information is necessary.

Don’t pay any money for a “free” government grant. If you have to pay money to claim a “free” government grant, it isn’t really free. A real government agency won’t ask you to pay a processing fee for a grant that you have already been awarded — or to pay for a list of grant-making institutions. The names of agencies and foundations that award grants are available for free at any public library or on the Internet. The only official access point for all federal grant-making agencies is www.grants.gov.

ANOTHER EXCERPT FROM FTC CONSUMER ALERT

Look-alikes aren’t the real thing. Just because the caller says he’s from the “Federal Grants Administration” doesn’t mean that he is. There is no such government agency. Take a moment to check the blue pages in your telephone directory to bear out your hunch — or not.

Same as the others, got a call saying I'm being awarded a government grant and they confirmed my name address, gave me a grant ID number, this phone number and the website usgovernmentgrants.org, also his name is John Richardson with a middle eastern accent. He wanted an account number to transfer funds to, I told him I don't want to do that but I'll check out the website to get more info before going further, and he raid he'd call back. Makes me feel uncomfortable that he has my name and address and phone number, but I guess that's all public knowledge anyway.

I got the same call on my cell phone. My response was "since you have my address, simply mail the check".  That ended  the call.  This is a BBB issue as far as I am concerned.  Who else is he going to call who will actually give out their debit card number!?

Just like some of the others posted, I received a phone call from two men. One named David Benson and the other David Brown. The first man, Benson, had a heavily Indian accent. I could barely understand him so he put on David Brown. He had an Indian accent as well. They gave me the contact number 206-201-2309 along with a grant number. They also asked for my debit card number and last 4 digits of my social. They said I had to pay 150.00 for a security deposit at western union. And once I pay the security deposit, I would receive 6,000 dollars in grant money. They said they were located in Washington D.C. I traced the number and the number comes from Bainsbridge Is, WA which is nowhere near Washington D.C. Please don't be as stupid as me to actually give out your debit card number. Good thing about it is the debit card has a balance of 0!

I too received a phone call on my cell first by a blocked number from a David, no last name.  Also asked me for my bank account number or a Debit card number so they could transfer the $6,000.00 into my bank account.. NO WAY was I going to give out that information, so they offered the Western Union way, also telling me I had to pay $150.00 to Western Union, fill out a form and then I would receive $6,150.00 back.  I had a gut feeling this was a scam, I'm so glad I "googled" the phone number of 206-201-2309 first and saw all of these postings.  Same as listed above, these two so called "men" had Middle Eastern Accents, and I could hardly understand the first caller David.  Nick the call back guy, was a little easier to understand, but still had an accent as well.  He did offer to put my grant money on hold until I could come up with the $150.00, I told him I didn't have $150.00 right now. So he said to call him back whenever I got the money together and then he would transfer the money to me via Western Union.
