Received a very threatening phone call saying i own substantial funds to the IRS.
They also said an arrest warrant had been issued.
The caller ID showed Unavailable but they left the number 202-864-1136.
When I called they identified themselves as an IRS office:
Mr. Calvin Jordin
Badge number 417306
An unnamed supervisor came on the line and gave me an additional number:
206-259-8844 x1211.
When you call both these numbers you get a voice mail saying you have reached the IRS.

When I contacted the IRS directly they confirmed that this was all fake.

There is a fairly common IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

I have just recived this scam call. same situation here.  On my home phone, the called ID appeared as U S GOVERNMENT. Saying that they have already filed up a law suit again me . wtf. I then called the provided phone number as 206 259 8844. a guy with accent asked my name, last 4 digit of my social ( too bad that I gave him) , but right before he ask me to provide my date of birth, I said " I'm not comfortable giving out these informations" . then I hung up.  
P.S. while I was on the phone, I can hear the background voice that his colleagues are  also taking calls.

I just got a phone call from a Tennessee number 931-569-3681 that claimed to be the IRS and to call 206-259-8844. It looked and sounded weird.  The IRS is located in Washington DC but the phone call originates in Tennessee and tells me to call Seattle Washington?  I deleted. the message.

we get calls and this last one said it was the irs final notice about the lawsuit case against us and to call immediately!!! Well first of all they did not say who the lawsuit was for and we have many adults that live here so who are they suing. No letters have come just these phone calls usually we ignore them and sometimes they leave a message and sometimes they don't but we are sick of these calls. It said to call 206-259-8844.  But on the caller ID number is 715-201-8226.  If the IRS contacts you it's usually through the mail.

it said - this is the final call from the IRS. The IRS will sue you holding action against you. Please call the number to find out.

This has been going on for so long it's not even funny anymore. They had this idiot men calling, distinct overseas accent, now they have an robot generated voice which sounds hilarious but is just such a nuisance. They have caught on and now say they are calling from the "IRS" Previously they would sound the acronym out which was also a red flag as we do NOT refer to the IRS as Internal Revenue Service, just IRS.  
This really has to stop.  How is it that they are getting away for nearly a year now, with this stunt?  Threatening that the Sheriff would be at my door soon if I do not reply!!!!!

I just got the same message about the IRS "(Internal Revenue Services") "filing a lawsuit against you", final notice, etc.  It was a 336 area code number but said to call 206-259-8844.  I thought it sounded fishy as we'd have expected to get something in the mail.   And if it really was the IRS calling, at least I would have expected a 202 area code.  Glad to find confirmation here.

I also received the same call from number 937-560-3671 asking me to call 206-259-8844

I just got a message saying a law suit was filing against me from irs. So I called back to this number 2062598844.  The guy with an accent says I owe 4000 in miscalculation of tax. And threaten of imprisonment and driver license cancelation.  I said I have to see a mail.  he send me to his supervisor, who sounds like the same guy.  Finally he hung up on me.  

I received an automated message on October 10, 2014 saying that the IRS has been attempting to contact me, that this is the last chance to respond, and that a lawsuit has been filed against me. The message told me to call 206-259-8844 immediately.
These people should be in jail.

We received a SCAM call from 931-560-3611 a Tennessee number threating that IRS is ready to file a law suit. They left a number 206-259-8844 to call back.
Beware of these scammer.
IRS never place a threating call.

I just got a similar phone call from 206-259-8844. They threatened me that I either pay $4896 or go to court, which may cost me about $22,000 to $23,000. They asked me to pay by cash with my bank check card immediately. I told them that I didn't have such big money right now. They then asked me to get cash using my credit card. I said I can only cash $200 a day. Then they said they would call me back tomorrow or Monday. Thanks to you all to provide such valuable information.

I also got a similar automated message from an Ohio number 234-308-5830 today. It was saying that they have been calling several times( actually that was the first time I got this call) and this was the final notice for there is a IRS lawsuit against ?me. It did not identify whom the message was addressed to. It  asked to call back immediately at the  number 206-259-8844. It sound very fishy and google this number in the internet and found this column. Thank you for you guys that started this forum and alert more people about this scam.

I received  a call from a 708 area code and asked me to call back to: 206-259-8844. The voice answered IRS, and  Calvin Jordan, IRS officer, with what sounded like an Indian accent, announcing that I owe the IRS big time, and there is a warrant for my arrest. He said he  his badge # was 25049.
I was told I owed $4896 in back taxes, and need to pay up or risk arrest or go to the federal court house and risk losing the case at the cost of $30,000 plus back taxes and legal fees. I said that I had to talk to my CPA since I don't owe any taxes. He said that my phone was being tapped and I could not contact anyone or risk losing everything I have. Besides, this was a matter between me and the IRS and has nothing to do with my accountant.
When I kept questioning  why I did not receive a notice in writing, he said I should talk to his supervisor, another man with a foreign accent, named Harvey Parker who repeated the threat and asked me if I wanted to resolve the matter right away or
an agent will be at the door within 25 minutes.  That's when I hung up on him.

Why these fake calls have not been stopped after so many years? Can't they be stopped? Why? The government can easily stop them using its power.

No, they can't be stopped.  They are hard-core Indian scammers and as such they are beyond the reach of US law.   The Indian government shuts them down once in a while, but they just spring up again.

Call blocker is your best bet.

Shows how random and stupid they are.  They just called a number that is the office of a large municipality making their demands and threats.  I just told them if your the IRS then you know where I work and where I live.  Come on over and pick me up I will be waiting and I will even keep the light on for you.  They said they will be right over LOL, of course no one showed up.  I called back to see if they were coming to get me and the number said disconnected.
