This is a telemarketing scam--leaves garbled voicemail "you have a case pending against you" but no information--if you call back, you get a call center (S. Asian native speaker) that doesn't identify the organization. Has called 4 or 5 times in last 2 days.

For the past week (Jan.25-Feb.2, 2016 ), I have gotten 2-3 calls per day telling me the IRS is filing a lawsuit and call 206-317-9442 right away. I don't have caller ID so I don't know what number called me. I'm sure this must be a scam.

No clue who they are. They left a message but it must not have started recording right away. Just told me to call the number but didn't say who they were.

I have received automated messages for the last 30 days, but the last 2 weeks have been ridiculous!  2 calls today alone.  I have not- nor will I call back someone who can't give a name, or case number to follow up on.  Also, IRS is required to notify you in writing of any action against you.  And- IRS does not call you with automated messages.

I've had four messages from this number today. The recording says the IRS is filing a lawsuit against you. The same thing happened to us last year. I was freaking out! It was totally a scam.

    IRS Scam:

The IRS does not need to sue anyone.  They send you first class letters delivered by the Post Office.  Several of them.  Ignore those, and they then send certified letters that you need to sign for.  Again delivered by the Post Office.  Ignore those and they simply freeze your bank accounts and anything else you own.  If they can do that, then why would they bother with a court case that might take them years before they get in front of a judge?  They also do not bother arresting people for a few thousand dollars for the same reasons I have already given.

Official IRS Government site detailing this scam and providing links to report it:
    http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Warns-of-Pervasive-Telephone-Scam

If you feel you SSN has been compromised, in addition to putting a fraud alert at the 3 credit bureaus, you may want to notify the IRS.  Here is the link, fill out the proper form (probably 14039):

First of all, the IRS does not call you, they send you letters, certified letters if necessary. They do not sue you, they prosecute you, and the certainly don't use foreign call centers to CONvince you to send them money over the phone. If the IRS is coming after you, there will be no ambiguity about it. They don't call you repeatedly to collect. After an administrative process for which you are notified, they simply secure and then attach judgments to your wages, bank accounts, and/or real property.  These bottom feeders are calling you from foreign call centers in third world nations in Asia.  In most instances all they have are the results of an automated dialer search, not even your name.  That's why they ask you and never initiate it first. They have no social rules and they don't care that you cuss them out. You can't sue them because they're ghosts even in their own country. Ignore them, hang up or just entertain yourself. But keep in mind that these people are not operating with our western rules of civility, and they may just go rogue and decide to harass you for their own amusement.
