I received a message on my cell that I was being sued by the IRS and that I should call this number--which I didn't.

Getting a call from this number, same story that I'm getting sued by the IRS. If I am, why are they calling me on my cell phone and not landline?

I got a call from this number, same story that I was being sued by the IRS.I didn't call it back. It's a scam trying to get your money. So don't answer or call this number back. The IRS would send you a letter in the mail if you were being sued.

    IRS Scam:

The IRS does not need to sue anyone.  They send you first class letters delivered by the Post Office.  Several of them.  Ignore those, and they then send certified letters that you need to sign for.  Again delivered by the Post Office.  Ignore those and they simply freeze your bank accounts and anything else you own.  If they can do that, then why would they bother with a court case that might take them years before they get in front of a judge?  They also do not bother arresting people for a few thousand dollars for the same reasons I have already given.

Official IRS Government site detailing this scam and providing links to report it:
    http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Warns-of-Pervasive-Telephone-Scam

If you feel you SSN has been compromised, in addition to putting a fraud alert at the 3 credit bureaus, you may want to notify the IRS.  Here is the link, fill out the proper form (probably 14039):

This is a typical SCAM phone call, if you call back the guy/girl with a strong Indian accent introduces him/herself as an IRS agent and will as for you personal data. Strong noise in the background.
IRS never calls - they send you a letter via USPS First class, if they fail to reach you they'll send another one.
    I'll report to local police

Exact same thing happened to me yesterday.  Woman was very aggresive and after arguing with her that she was lying and that the IRS did not operate this way, I hung up on her.  I have since reported her number(s) to the IRS as I was called from 2 different numbers with the same area code.
