I have an ad on Craigslist currently advertising a diamond ring.

A person identifying herself as Gail Ann Marek of Newport, TN contacted me regarding the ring. This person offered me a preposterous and ridiculous deal: she wanted to pay me $150.00 to ship this ring, and "let her pay on PayPal".

Instantly, I knew this was phony. Last year a m/f calling himself Lewis Rose offered me $350.00 to ship a drumset I had on C-List, and again, they wanted me to do this through PayPal.

The Lewis Rose joker was pretty cool......he actually used the PayPal logo.

I contacted the FBI in that case, and also PayPal to confirm.

I just left a message with Deputy Chief FinchuM at the Newport, TN Police Department.

Watch out for these filthy characters.

got the same lady contacting me about a macbook, i was a sucker and gave her my paypal address, i should have followed my gut, sounding fishy.  i emailed paypal.  did anyone have anything bad happen to them?  identity theft, email/paypal hacked, unauthorized transactions, etc?  what did you experience?  what did you do to fix this (if something bad happened)?  any suggestions would be helpful, nothing has happened to be me yet but i want to take precautions.

I wouldn't worry, cap2wwu.  I got the exact same message from "Gail" as everyone else and stupidly gave them my PayPal email address because I was in a hurry to sell my $1,000 computer.

I got a bunch of PayPal emails that looked fairly convincing (fooled me at first) until I looked at the sender (some gmail address).  Hint hint: ALWAYS look at the email address that sent the email.  All the fake emails said that I was paid, the money has been withdrawn from their account and is being held until I get the authorization code, etc. etc.  100% scam, but nothing malicious.

I just received an email from iamaglobalkid@gmail.com  S/he is asking about my RV still being for sale.  The English grammar isn't quite right.  No phone number given.

I got the exact identical email in response to a CL ad I have posted. I tiold her I reported her internet IP address to the FCC and the FTC and someone would be knocking on her door soon....

I was also contacted through email from this person asking about a listing I had just posted on Craigslist about a diamond ring. I almost gave them my paypal info, but decided to search their email address and see what came up. It just seemed weird to me that someone wanted to pay $1,000 for a used item plus offered me $150 for shipping, and didn't even request to see the ring in person....just wanted me to ship it directly to their friend.
