A male with a thick foreign accent left a message asking me to return his call.  I couldn't understand most of what he said, except for "Department of Internal Revenue Service" and something about an application.  I have no idea what this is about, as I live in Ohio and he called from Washington state.  It's likely a scam, and I certainly do not plan to call him back.

•You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at FTC.gov. Add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments in your complaint.

I received a call from this number. First the man with a thick foreign accent left a message about my tax lien and something about "before it goes to court." Then he called again and I said I would call the IRS to confirm any issue with my taxes. I called the IRS, where the two people I spoke to both gave me their names and badge numbers. The second person confirmed that it is a scam and said these scammers are very aggressive and have even called her! She said these scammers are also aggressive with emails and warned not to open any "tax lien" emails but to forward them to phishing@irs.gov.

Caller said they were from Washington state and left a message about a tax lien and to call them before "it goes to court."  Obvious scam.  I really need to get a phone number blocker...

I got 2 calls from this number and I called them back, they had my wife's name, my name and address and since I wouldn't agree to settle this they said a warrant for my arrest would be issued.
Very foreign speaking people and very rude and persistent, and when you ask questions they get defensive.

Got a call from 206.451.5557. The person with what sounded like an Indian accent (he was also very distracted) said they were from the IRS and that I had a tax issue. I told him that if there was an issue they should mail me the paperwork, at which point I hung up.

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.
    Read http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:

    1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

    2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back directly (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances - amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

    3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://m.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-centr ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf). "with just your name"
These idiots called this morning at 7:20 AM claiming to be calling from an IRS office in Washington state. As I am in the same time zone, I figured it was a scam. They have a new guy with less of an accent. They're going to have to arrest me because I'm not calling 206-451-5557.

The man with Indian accent claimed to be from IRS Legal Department.

Same number as the others have received calls 206-451-5557.

Three hours later I get another call on the answering machine from Ross Skeever of the IRS legal department. Must be on a timer. Sounded a little mad so I hung up on his message. Its 10:30 PM in Pakistan. Probably getting tired and cranky.

Scam. Computer voice message left about "IRS" "legal division" and "tax fraud." You can tell also they're not native speakers of American English because they told the computer voice to say "call us back on [number]" instead of "call us back at [number]," among various other things. 100% scam. Ignore the calls or blacklist them, and certainly don't call the number back that they give.

My mother just received a call from this number as well.  She knew it was a scam.  If these people want to impersonate the IRS, they need to do a better job of it.  The IRS doesn't have to take you to court to collect.  They just do it!  :)

Left message, IRS, filing tax liens, do not call these morons back. IRS does not call you and leave messages, they always contact, snail mail first. When the recorded  message ends, "Thank you have a good day forward", do they really think I am that stupid. Best laugh I had all day.

Left message on my answering machine to call them tax fraud dept or I would be arrested. I called back and told him he was definitely barking up the wrong tree and he would be the one getting arrested. He hung up.

I got a call from a man who said he was from the Legal Department IRS Washington. He left this number which of course turns out to be in Washington state, not DC. He said something about a legal notice concerning my taxes and said I should call him back before it goes to federal claims court or before I am arrested. Since I know my tax situation is flawless,  I know this is a scam and have no intention of calling him back.

Had fun talking to I guess the same guy today.  I mean, it is not fun at all that, there are these spammers out there.  But had a conversation with the heavy accent (I thought it was a women but he/she gave me Brian Taylor name and even a batch number :-)) and I just wanted to see how far he/she would go and when he/she would finally crack (I know my taxes are in perfect condition).  On top off instructing to go to the bank immediately or the arrest would be issued immediately they "finally" agreed to wait until next day for the money transfer but requested not to contact the CPA or attorney.  No!  I won't contact CPA or attorney!  I will contact IRS and Federal Trade Commission.  Something has to be done, really
