- Catherine JudkinsIRS tax scam threatening arrest
- Too funnyI got a missed call from him, so I called back, claimed to be from the IRS and asked for my name and phone number. I have friends who are IRS agents and constantly tell me about this scam, the IRS never calls, they send letters out to you, and if you owe money, they will simply initiate legal proceedings, they would never call to warn you. Haha. So I told the guy, ohhhh you are just a scammer, I thought it was a real call. He said what? I told him, you are just a scammer, I thought it was a friend of mine calling but you are just an indian scammer. He just hung up. If he was a real IRS agent he wouldn't simply hang up and not call back to try to contact me again if I owed so much money haha this guy . ..
- Scott| 1 replyI received a phone message from a person purporting to be from the IRS who indicating I would be arrested if I did not respond to the call. The individual spoke with an Indian (Asia) accent and left the following call back. 206-512-1504.
Seemed fishy so I Googled the number and found that this is a scam. AS another poster indicated, the IRS doesn't call. They send letters.- Caller: Purporting to be IRS

- cindy mcmanis| 1 replyI received a call from this phone number urging me to call back before i was sued. my husband called back and the phone is out of service that night. Next day another call . i called and got someone and was immediately harassed and yelled at about all i had not filed on 6 yrs of taxes. They too impersonate federal treasury agents. I was told i had 90,000 owed in fines but all was told was to secure a lawyer and i would be arrested on Friday of this week 9/5/14, all accounts frozen. They just need to have 5 minutes alone with my husband.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.
2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)
3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf).
