These are people who, once they've convinced you that you have a problem will get access to your computer and commit fraud.  See info. below from Snopes:
Scam:   Scammers pretending to be Microsoft techs call victims to gain access to their computers and/or bank accounts.

Example:   [Collected on the Internet, August 2009]

I have just received a phone call form someone claiming to be from Microsoft, who says that I have a virus which is sending information from my computer.

It sounds like a bit of a scam, but is there any chance that it could be genuine?

Origins:   Although this Microsoft impersonation scam has been around since at least 2009, in December 2010 and January 2011 it appeared to enjoy a renaissance, as reports came in of its being run in numerous countries, including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and England.

In short, Microsoft does not contact people out of the blue to tell them there's something wrong with their computers. Ergo, unless you've initiated contact with Microsoft about a computer problem you're having, you should dismiss as frauds any phone calls, e-mails, online chat dialogues, and the like from folks who claim they work for Microsoft and have spotted something wrong with your computer.

The scammers running this type of fraud pretend they're from the software company's technical support department when they telephone to inform householders that their computers have been infected with a virus. Often the scam pitch begins "I'm calling for

Microsoft. We've had a report from your internet service provider of serious virus problems from your computer." The caller warns that if the problem is not solved the computer will become unusable and then offers to repair the problem.

The ultimate goal of the fraud varies depending upon which con artists are running it. Some crossroaders set up the confused householders to buy overpriced (and worthless) anti-virus protection. Others, under the guise of selling a solution to the victim's computer virus "problem," go after their pigeons' bank account info, then once they have it, make hefty withdrawals. Yet others look to take remote control of the computers belonging to those they dupe. The last of these appears to be the most common form of the scam; in that iteration, con artists direct their intended victims to access a particular website and download a program from it. By doing so, those users enable remote access to their computers.

Microsoft says about this fraud that:
Microsoft does not make unsolicited phone calls to help you fix your computer

In this scam cybercriminals call you and claim to be from Microsoft Tech Support. They offer to help solve your computer problems. Once the crooks have gained your trust, they attempt to steal from you and damage your computer with malware including viruses and spyware.

Although law enforcement can trace phone numbers, perpetrators often use pay phones, disposable cellular phones, or stolen cellular phone numbers. It's better to avoid being conned rather than try to repair damage afterwards.

Treat all unsolicited phone calls with skepticism. Do not provide any personal information.

If you receive an unsolicited call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft Tech Support, hang up. We do not make these kinds of calls

Just got the call from these tools... told me that they have my Windows key and my computer is sending msg's.  Asked him what company he's calling from "Internet online Support" and for a number in case we get disconnected "505-652-7580" probably a bogus one also.. anyways after about 20 min of him going on his written dialogue.  I asked him if he can tell me what my Windows key was to verify that he was from MS.  He rhymed off a bunch of number then I started laughing... He told me that it's no laughing matter, that my banking info was being transmitted to an unknown person... I told him it really is funny cause I don't even use Windows, that I run Linux OS on my computer & according to the network monitor I have, there has been no activity on my internet for sometime because I don't have internet either.  I Live on a farm, in the country and the only internet option for me is dial up.  He then asked me how I do my banking & I told him "like they did in the old days, at the bank." and I hung up... anyways This is a scam don't fall for it...

( side note if I need internet I go to my daughters... & if I ever get it.. don't think I'll be doing my banking online..)

I received a call from these people telling me that I was under investigation for international banking fraud and that my SSN was being investigated.  I am terrified that these jackholes know the last 4 digits of my SSN.  I am working on contacting someone to protect my identity from Susan (THICK Indian accent) and Reynaldo (THICKER INDIAN ACCENT).  They are trying to phish for information.  Do not return their calls if they leave you a message.  They are committing a fraud and I will b e reporting this!

Got 3 calls in past two days.  Claim they're from Microsoft Service Department, that I have a virus they want to fix for me, yada yada...

Funny thing is, I asked one of them if he was calling from Mumbai or Bangalore.  "Jack" actually said he was calling from Chennai!

Sad part is they had my name and address...

This number has been calling constantly for sometime now and I've been ignoring it because i figured it was yet another scam. I couldn't handle the calls at all hours anymore and today I picked up. A guy with a thick East Indian accent told me he was from Microsoft and needed access to my computer to fix a virus. I lost it on him right away and started yelling, causing him to stutter. He lost his train of thought and hung up. If he calls again I'll have another go at him, I suggest you do the same, very liberating.
