    I just received a call from 206 792-9524 stating that I was to receive $9000.00 of government grant money that would not have to be paid back.  The person I spoke to said his name was Kevin Cooper and he wanted my name, address, bank acct number or credit card number where he would deposit the $9000.00 within 20 mins.  After talking to consumer protection I have found out this was all a Scam.  I was
    lucky enough to close my account before any money was withdrawned.

    My elderly friend called me to have these people.  They are scamming people!  There should be a special jail for that.

    I received a phone call from a supposed government agency stating that I was able to get $9000 in grant money that would not have to be paid back. This is a scam to get your personal information including bank account information. I wonder how people get my phone number when I am on the do not call registry.

    This is a rather long answer to some posters who seem to think the scammers use the DNC list to obtain numbers to call, or who think the DNC list does not work.  If you are not one of those people, consider exiting this message now.

    Since you are still here, you need some help.  Allow me to present it in a very simple fashion ... not to insult your intelligence, but to attempt to get the idea across to even those who have difficulty understanding more complicated answers.

    Can you count?
    If you answered "yes", that is a good start.  Try counting from 1 to 10 now.  I will wait.
    ..........
    Finished?  Good.
    I want you to think "0" instead of "10".  Got it?
    Now, get a piece of paper and a pen or pencil, and write down those 10 numbers.  Here, I will help you, in case your forgot:

    0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

    Now get ready to write down some more numbers.  I want you to write them down in the following format:
    ABC-DEF-GHIJ
    Yes, I know those are letters, but I want you to use numbers, instead.
    Think of a number between 0 and 9 ... pick one from the list I gave above, if you wish.
    Write it down, instead of the "A", above
    Do that nine more times, writing it down instead of the other letters.
    Now, look at the result.
    Does it ring a bell?
    It should, because you just wrote down a phone number!

    Mr Computer is very good at making numbers.
    Mr Computer can do what you just did in a fraction of a second.
    In other words, Mr Computer can make and dial phone numbers VERY quickly.

    Spammers and scammers who know about Mr Computer do not need to register and buy the DNC list.
    Spammers and scammers who know about Mr Computer can even dial "unlisted" numbers, or "private numbers" or "brand-new numbers you just got"!

    There, now you know all about how spammers can dial YOUR phone number, even if it is unlisted, and even if only relatives know it, and even if it is on or off the DNC list.

    I hope that helps prove the DNC list DOES work!  It helps prevent calls from registered / legitimate telemarketers, but it is not able to stop calls from telespammers.  It is also NOT designed to stop political callers (who usually get the numbers from voter registration lists), calls from charities, or some other companies, such as debt collectors.

    I rec'd a call from this number, Knowing it was a scam, I wanted to see what they are up to. To make a long story short, they wanted me to get a green dot card loaded with $195.00 (for lawyers fees)  take it to western union and call them when I get there.  After listening to this Lady who's name was Lisa (she had a very heavy Indian accent), I asked her where she was calling from and she said Washington DC and she was with the Federal Grant Dept. I informed her that I was on-line checking and saw that she was calling from Seattle Wa.  She got a little flustered, but insisted that she was with the Fed's.  I told her it was a felony to impersonate a government official and I was calling the FBI and reporting her.  She promptly hung up,  lol.

    The  person who call me at the first time said ,   I have to call the 206-792-9524 to talk to another person.  When I call I talk to the same person.    Her was Lisa Barry.   I going to receive  $9000.00 Government money,  I am very lucky (she said).    She tell me to go to VCS and buy the Green  DOT Money voucher debit card and I need to load $195.00 to the card.  I said I only have $50.00 on my hand,  she said if I $50.00 to the card I only get $4550.00.   I said ok give me $4550.00.   She said,  I want get you full amount.   I said I was lucky that is my money,  go a head send the check to me.  She said no you have buy the card you can the money in western union Bank.  Them I know that was scam

    Same info as the rest of you, $9k grant, we will mail you the package but you have to call this Seattle WA phone number to get in with the check person.,  I did not call the number because it seemed phishy.  PUT THESE SORRY PEOPLE UNDER THE JAIL!!!  ITS TERRORIST AND THEY ARE TRYING TO FUND HATE AND DISCONTENT LIKE IN THE REST OF THE WORLD HERE IN THE GOOD OLE USA!

    I actually received a call from (202) 621-0020 (Washington DC, per my caller ID).  The caller identified himself as Rob. His story tracked true to all the other logs, including that he was calling from the Federal Government Department, that I would receive a grant of $9000.00, that it would not have to be paid back, the "Money approval #" of "AK357". Rob wanted to confirm my zip code and my name,  he offered up the name of my wife as an attempt to validate himself. He then wanted a credit card or bank account number to deposit the $9000.00, and also offered an option to use Western Union as the transfer agent, Working with the State Bank of NY, but I would have to call back at (206) 792-9524'  the same number everyone else has listed,  I called back the calling number identified per my caller ID, and was advised by the phone company that the number does not exist.  I called the police to report the attempt to fraud me, and sadly, they were not interested in my providing them the two phone numbers. Thank goodness for Google to bring me to this blog. These rip-off artists should be shot!!!

    I received the identical call as Pete, verbatim.  When he asked for my info to verify, I told him 'you called me - tell me what you have, and I'll tell you if it's right'.  He hung up on me - hmmmm

    Not much police can do; calls originate in either India or Pakistan and spoof local numbers and use the 202 area code.

    Got the call verbatim.  $9,000 but the Indian lady on the other line was too stupid and spoke too little english to even know how to steal my money.  Pretty funny.
