Received call 7/1/2015 advising that back taxes are owed and must be paid right away or local authorities would be sent out.

I did too just now & I called it back twice & they hung up on me when I asked if this was thr Internal Revenue Service.

Received a "last attempt" notification from the "IRS-Internal Revenue Service" about an open case against me, urging me to call them back immediately. I called the number back and the person on the line said I owed 3K for misfiled taxes between the years of 2008-2013. He stated they had tried to send me correspondence via USPS on 2 separate occasions and had not received a reply from me, and that the postal delivery had informed them I was not available to deliver the information to. I eventually told this person I was not going to continue to discuss the matter with them, and that if they were really the IRS, I had a feeling they would find a way to get in touch with me via mail.

This happened to my boyfriend this morning as well. They left him a pre-recorded message saying they were going to sue us with urgency to call them back. I then called the number and it automatically rang and a man picked up, who might I add through his accent I could not even understand him. I don't know if any of you have actually called the IRS before but there is not a single number you can call which does not begin with an pre-recorded message, and even then rarely can you get to a person, you must usually leave a message and wait for them to get back to you. The fact that someone actually answered this number almost right away was a big red flag for me personally. When the man answered one of the few things I could understand was him say was that this is the IRS. When I have ever called the IRS they do not call themselves the IRS, they will say Internal Revenue Service. I read a warning about phone scams off the IRS website and then searched the number which lead me to the above comments. It does seem as though we are trying to be scammed people.

Left a message on my voice mail, to call them asap, Im going to be sued by the IRS.

Tecieved the IRS scam phone call...knew immediately what it was. Am STUNNED our government hasn't done more to shut this down...it's been going on for awhile.
My questions were far too savvy and I was hung up on.

The IRS doesn't call...they mail "intents to garnish" or " intents to levy a lien"

Received a call on 7/1/2015 advising this was the last call the IRS was going to make before filing a lawsuit against us.
I listened and wrote down the number of 206-801-0789.  I did not return the call as I am SURE this is a scam.

There is a widespread IRS (or CRA) or "tax scam" being  practiced by scammers on both USA and Canadian residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

They left a message on my cell phone which started in the middle since it was a recording and probably started when my voice mail picked up. It stated that I call them at their department number. I have no debt and meticulous about my taxes. I can’t believe there are so many unscrupulous con artists so busy just trying to steal.

me, too.  just got the call - crazy how this is allowed - FRAUD.  Scammers!  send THEM to jail.

Most of these calls are coming from India and Pakistan.  We have no jurisdiction in those country's.

same as above. When I called back I got the same, I owed $5784 which is whack... I dont make much money to begin with.
I too got a foreigner who said they would suspend my DL, freeze all my accounts or take me to court! When I said I will call my lawyer, hey hung up.

7-1-2015 received the same call, did not answer the phone, message was left that I owed back taxes and was being sued by the IRS number called from is 206 801 0789 Seattle, WA  I saved the caller ID and the message. I know it is a scam, do not owe any back taxes.

Just got this call, but still waiting for the police they are sending to arrest me for misfiling my taxes. They gave me a badge number for the Sherrif in our town and a name. Unfortunately for the hackers, I'm a close friend of the Sherrif in our town and they were very wrong. I told the person badge # CA1077 on the phone to get their supervisor while I call the Sherrif on my cell. Needless to say, I waited and no one came to the phone or my house for that matter.

I also today received a message like that one in which you received informing me that I was being sued. Came from the same phone number as yours. Recently I have been getting calls from that same number but this time a message was left. What a scam.

What a scam, just called them back and they said they were the police.

So I played along with them and they said they called 2 weeks ago and talked to my daughter, well I only have a son.

I could tell they were Asian and a lot of phone noise in the back ground
