- TimewasterI'm based in UK . They didn't give a phone number but I assume it was from India.
Got a call from them today at 12.30 saying they were Security Centre of Windows. Claimed my PC was corrupted. I have 5 PCs/laptops using Windows 98, 2000, XP, and Windows 7 x 2. Asked me to open my PC so I opened Windows 98. They never asked which version of Windows I was using. This caused much confusion as much of what they asked me to do didn't work (run eventvwr). I was put onto a 'senior technician' called Michelle who took me through the same steps with no success. She then asked me to open a .inf file and claimed it showed evidence of corruption. At this point I told her that I was fully conversant with Windows (which I am) and she terminated the call. I wasted 25 minutes of their time.
At 2.30 I received another call from the same organisation. We went through the same proces, and again I was passed to Michelle who appeared not to remember that she had spoken to me 2 hours earlier. She went through the same process. She gave me their website address www.globalpcsupport.in and wanted to pass me on to a Microsoft certified technician who would fix the problem for a minimum fee of UKP139 (about USD200). She then terminated the call. Only managed to waste 20 minutes of their time.- Caller: Globalpcsupport
