fax from irs whats bank a/c number -------- social security number cpoy of passport and signature
I have received a fax from this number, claiming that they are the IRS & would like to file some forms with regrads of my tax filing. Is this a correct number. Please advise if you can help.
All the IRS forms are in pdf format and available on their website. They never communicate via email to update your personal information and you will definitely receive it in mail. At the same time they have to know your name and address. " David Smith " and the 1-206-203-3379 fax number are fake and this is an scam.
I got an fax sighed by David Smith, Director of Information, International Revenue Service IRS.gov. It says to authenticate that I am exempted from United States of America Tax and so on. He wants me to fill out FORM W-8BEN and send it back to +1-206-888-1766. It doesn't have any address or phone number, so I ignore it. The caller ID is 112256.
This FAX requires to fill out personal information in W-8BEN form. It comes from 'International Revenue Service(IRS.gov)', says that I am recorded as a non-resident alien in U.S.A., and am exempted from U.S.A. tax reporting and withholdings. And interest will be paid me. I think it seems to be a lie because I don't have any valuable things in U.S.A. So I didn't reply.
I work in Japan as an English teacher at a public school in Tokyo and have been here for about 6 years. Another teacher received a fake letter claiming to be from the IRS with a W-8BEN form attached by fax at their public school! This phone number was at the bottom of the form. The letter says that the IRS needs to update the teacher's information for IRS records and asks that they fill out the form and fax it back to 206-888-1766. This is clearly a scam. If you receive any faxes or letters in the mail claiming the same, you can be sure it's not legit.
I just got one of those letters myself, faxed to my school in Japan. One of the Japanese teachers warned me that this was a scam, and looking at the terrible quality of this fax, it seems pretty obvious. It doesn't have my name on it, and it claims that I'm a nonresident alien of the United States. (Nonresident? Yes. Alien? No.) They offered to send the fictitious W9095 as well.
I was looking to buy a car off of craigslist and I was told to fax my western union confirmation to this number and they would ship my car. Any offer to ship a car off of craigslist is a scam and never use western union or moneygrams through ebay.
Thank you every one! I have confirmed my doubt. I got the same fax in my office in Japan. There is no my name on it. They must get the fax number in the company web site. But how did they know that I was in US? Did they read my japanese profile in the site? LinkedIn seemed most suspicious. Internet Fax made this thing happened. I though this was vanished 10 years ago. This blog has a picture of the fax. http://www.prodigalaboratory.net/archives/51108261.html
My parents in Taiwan got this fax, too. It must be a scam. I am a tax consultant. The IRS will not ask for W-8BEN. Instead, only the banks (or whoever pays your interest, dividend, etc) will request such form from you. I choose to ignore it.
Wonder how did this guy, David Smith, get my parents' address in Taiwan. Wierd
My relatives in Taiwan got same fax two days ago. I told them not to reply it because there was no receiver's name on it. Also, instead of sending a fax, IRS will send you a letter normally. I wonder how this person get my relatives' fax number that sometimes communicate with our fax in US?
Yea, I just received a fax too today at my school I work for in Japan... The thing is, I'm not even a US citizen. Japanese teacher gave it to me assuming it was for me but she didn't know what it was.
Same fax to my office in Japan. No name as to me. "Dear Sir". 206 is Seattle, Washington. Problem is he has hacked somewhere in the US as regards me, a non-citizen. There have been warnings from IRS. They would never, never fax or e-mail. Hope they catch this guy.
Received a fax similar to the ones above dated November 1st. Not sure what phone number it came from, but it asked to send the W-8Ben back to fax number 1 425 491 8482 We received this fax in the Cayman Islands. This has been reported to the Royal Cayman Islands Police.
