- It's a SCAM| 6 repliesI've received four phone calls over the last five hours from three different phone numbers, including this one. First, one of the other numbers (815-493-8244) left an automated voicemail saying that the IRS was filing a lawsuit against me, and to call them back immediately. SCAM. So when this number (206-973-7350) called, a number that I did not recognize, I decided to answer. The man on the other end had such a heavy accent that I could barely understand him, but he was saying something about the IRS coming after me for a tax mistake from last year, that if I didn't contact so-and-so from their "Department of Something" immediately, then I would be arrested and blah, blah, blah. SCAM. Hopefully no one believes any of these phone calls when they receive them. If there were really an issue with your taxes, the actual IRS would not be leaving threatening automated voicemails or having someone that can barely speak English calling you and telling you that you'll be arrested if you don't do what they say.
- RickAlmost exactly as the person above me, doing research. Looking like a scam
- Caller: Irs
- TimScam. Heavy middle eastern or Indian accent, claims to be from IRS and claims you have trouble from your past and that you need to call them back and pay before being arrested. **IRS would never do this. HANG UP IMMEDIATELY!!**
- patty replies to It's a SCAMI received the same call why do these people think we are so stupid that they would call and warn us that they are going to arrest us and they can't speak english either.
- F LindSame as other posts. An English speaking serious sounding women leaves message saying that I'm being sued by the IRS.
I called back and an Indian male says he is an IRS Federal Investigator. I hung up. - R Suth2:40pm, Caller ID'd as Seattle phone sometime, Seattle?? thick accent, (unknown what), difficult to understand many words, male, didn't wait till my Voicemail sent outgoing message, thus clipping incoming message so suspect is automated.
"....received illegal(?) ....in your name...x mistake... before you go to court or get arrested.....call 206-973-7350
...momento(?) emergency.." [# matched caller ID] - A BSame exact message a few minutes ago.
- K WI just received message from the thick accented gentlemen pretending to be from the IRS. Since I am in fact an IRS agent, I called the guy back. This is absolutely a SCAM and I hope no one gets deceived by this.
- jroussSame as above IRS scam threatening to sue me if I don't call them back.
- WesI received this call, when I called this idiot back, first I had a terrible time understanding him. Then I told him to please do not wait the 24 hours, send me to jail tonight. He said he had to wait 24 hours and could not tell me why. Told me I needed to call my lawyer, but would not tell me what I was being charged with. PLEASE DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM, It was a shame I could not have more fun with him.
The message he left was that I failed to pay my taxes for last year. - GingerReceived 2 calls in the past 2 days exactly like all the above, one from 206-973-7350(man with heavy accent) and the other from 253-0655-4389 (English speaking woman).
- Caller: IRS
- Call type: Prank
- Sheryl McClellan| 2 repliesThey are saying I may get arrested for back taxes.

- Call type: Debt collector

- Nancy replies to It's a SCAMReceived the same Call, didn't fall for it.
- DennisI got a call from 206-973-7350 basically saying the same thing-when I called the number back a woman with a very thick middle eastern accept answered "Federal Legal Investigation Department". So I asked her where she was located and she hung up on me. Usually when you call a government office they put you on hold for ever then eventually come back on the line. Not this one. My guess it's either ISIS or Al Queda trying to raise funds for their cause.
- Caller: Federal Legal Investigation Dept
- Call type: Debt collector
- mikeSame as the rest. IRS calling saing I may be arrested.
- Caller: IRS
- Call type: Debt collector

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.
The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.
By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.
Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.
They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.
Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.
The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.
If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.
http://money.cnn.com/2015/01/22/pf/taxes/irs-tax-scams/ - dc_homeI received the same basic call that they are going to arrest us and they can't speak english either. Why do these people think we are all so stupid that they would call and warn us

- MelA man with a very heavy (Indian accent), left a message stating that I was going to be arrested if I did not call back due to a mistake I made on my taxes. I could barely understand him. Assuming this is a scam.
