Caller ID from a cell phone and "have a blessed day?" What a moron. - Lily replies to Peter KuykendallJust got the same message. A very Indian sounding voice. No blessed day though!
- Mercy MathewI too received a call from the same number...
- CherylThe IRS will NEVER handle business in this manner. You will receive notice by 1st class mail then registered mail and finally an IRS verified 800 call. THIS IS A SCAM! DO NOT CALL THEM BACK IF THEY LEAVE A MESSAGE. Have a blessed day :)
- Caller: ?IRS?
- Beth replies to Peter KuykendallI got the same message and everything!
- NancyI received a voicemail today and I returned the call because I was told that the IRS was filing a suit against me for my 2008-2012 taxes for tax evasion. I told him I would have my husband call him and he said that the suit was only against me. I said how could that be we file jointly? He said he was an officer and that a deputy would be coming to my home today and arresting me and holding me for 72 hours. I think this is terrible. I happen to be on sick leave due to surgery and did not find this the least it funny.
- Caller: IRS or so he said
- BariI received a phone call from 206-973-7539. Male, East Indian accent. Left message saying I was being investigated by IRS and to avoid arrest I should call back. This is the second time I have received such a call from that phone number.
- Meg S replies to JDReceived call from 206-973-7539 Tuesday June 22 12:00. Called back. Same voice answered as IRS. Asked for ID, he disconnected.
- Fred StrattonI didn't speak to this person live, but got home, and was told that I was being taken to court for some tax violation. The person had a thick Indian accent: very hard to make out what he was saying. I had to listen 4 times before putting it together. He asked that I not ignore the message.

- cathyReceiving multiple calls daily from foreign man who states "Before you get arrested kindly return my call I am an Officer with the IRS. Call comes from 954 858 5994 but we are told to call 206-973-7539.
- Chewbacca-the-WookieIndian scammers. Best to just ignore/block the number and not call them back. They can become very vulgar if they are challenged or called out, so unless you want to be cussed out by a putz in a boiler room halfway across the globe....
The IRS will NEVER call you or e-mail you. They will ONLY contact via U.S. Mail if there's an issue. The foreign accent is a dead giveaway! The Treasury Department is well aware of these scams and is constantly issuing fraud alerts to warn consumers.- Caller: Fake Indian IRS
- SteveLike the above people, an Indian or Pakistani accent calling to tell me he was an IRS officer (never gave a badge number, which they always do) and threatened grim things unless I called him back at the above number. All such real correspondence with the IRS will be through certified mail, not phone calls
- Caller: IRS supposedy
- Jeff from COGot the same call. Called back to see what it was about - the phone number has been disconnected. I know Congress has cut the IRS $ back but I don't think their phone would be disconnected. LOL

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone. US mail only. IRS does not file lawsuits. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes. IRS has no powers of arrest. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of money. IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.
