This number called me and the person on the line said that they were calling from Microsoft Windows Tech Support. He said that they detected that I had unknowingly downloaded a virus on my computer and they needed some information. I hung up of course, but then they called back and I said that I wasn't interested in their help and then the man on the line got mad and I hung up again and they did not call back.

Got a call today. Didn't answer. Don't phone back it could be a scam to redirect to a billing charge similar to 900 numbers. The RCMP say that such a scam is going round now,,

NEVER pick up if you look at your call display and there is no name or the name is "Unknown" or "Blocked" or if the name is unfamiliar to you. It's always a scam. (And the very rare occasions when it is not, and it's someone real, they'll leave a message and you can call back.)

If someone picks up when the scammers call, even if they don't have a person available to run the scam on you right that second (so no one is on the line when you answer), their computers have registered that this IS a genuine number and there IS someone they can scam there. So they'll keep calling.

    NEVER. pick. up.

I got call from this number today at 11AM, Mar 22, 2014, saying my computer has been sending messages to microsoft server in the last 3 weeks, and will help me to clean the virus in my computer.

Said she's calling from technical support department of microsoft, for windows. said i need to turn on the computer and she will show me how to clean the virus.  Apparently I wouldn't do that. She did not know I am a computer engineer.
    Asked her name, said she's “Emily Johnson";
Asked for her number (I want to verify her), then she's silence and hung up. You hit the wall baby.

I checked my other phone where it shows CID and showing this number.

    StopCallingMe
(Kingston, ON) Normally I NEVER pick up an unknown number but I was actually expecting a call.  So I pick up but don't say anything which an auto-dialler will interpret as an answering machine and makes a human naturally speak first.  His massive Indian accent is a DEAD giveaway for SCAMMER so I pretended not to be able to hear him as soon as he introduced himself as calling from Microsoft (as if MS would call someone, caller please!).  I warned him that prank calling was a crime and that I was hanging up which I did.  I was immediately called back twice by a completely bogus number 1-3-719-999-9999.  I've blocked both of them now.

Hi, I got a call from the same number and i really believe it was Microsoft.  It is their research and development branch in Afghanistan.  They only want to help you to support their country and make it a better place. If you give them your credit card you need to watch the movie Identity Thief and hope it turns out as good as the show.

    • Caller: Microsoft

No, it wasn't Microsoft - they and their partners do NOT call you unless you've called them first!  One thing I do believe though, is you're in with these scammers, otherwise you wouldn't be trying so hard to convince people that they are legitimate.  Fail.

    http://www.microsoft.com/security/online-privacy/avoid-phone-scams.aspx

Cybercriminals don't just send fraudulent email messages and set up fake websites. They might also call you on the telephone and claim to be from Microsoft. They might offer to help solve your computer problems or sell you a software license. Once they have access to your computer, they can do the following:

Trick you into installing malicious software that could capture sensitive data, such as online banking user names and passwords. They might also then charge you to remove this software.

Take control of your computer remotely and adjust settings to leave your computer vulnerable.

Request credit card information so they can bill you for phony services.

Direct you to fraudulent websites and ask you to enter credit card and other personal or financial information there.

Neither Microsoft nor our partners make unsolicited phone calls (also known as cold calls) to charge you for computer security or software fixes.

Telephone tech support scams: What you need to know
Cybercriminals often use publicly available phone directories so they might know your name and other personal information when they call you. They might even guess what operating system you're using.

Once they've gained your trust, they might ask for your user name and password or ask you to go to a website to install software that will let them access your computer to fix it. Once you do this, your computer and your personal information is vulnerable.

Do not trust unsolicited calls. Do not provide any personal information.

Here are some of the organizations that cybercriminals claim to be from:

    Windows Helpdesk

    Windows Service Center

    Microsoft Tech Support

    Microsoft Support

    Windows Technical Department Support Group

Microsoft Research and Development Team (Microsoft R & D Team)

How to protect yourself from telephone tech support scams
If someone claiming to be from Microsoft tech support calls you:

Do not purchase any software or services.

Ask if there is a fee or subscription associated with the "service." If there is, hang up.

Never give control of your computer to a third party unless you can confirm that it is a legitimate representative of a computer support team with whom you are already a customer.

Take the caller's information down and immediately report it to your local authorities.

Never provide your credit card or financial information to someone claiming to be from Microsoft tech support.

What to do if you already gave information to a tech support person
If you think that you might have downloaded malware from a phone tech support scam website or allowed a cybercriminal to access your computer, take these steps:

Change your computer's password, change the password on your main email account, and change the password for any financial accounts, especially your bank and credit card.

Scan your computer with the Microsoft Safety Scanner to find out if you have malware installed on your computer.

Install Microsoft Security Essentials. (Microsoft Security Essentials is a free program. If someone calls you to install this product and then charge you for it, this is also a scam.)

Note: In Windows 8, Windows Defender replaces Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows Defender runs in the background and notifies you when you need to take specific action. However, you can use it anytime to scan for malware if your computer isn’t working properly or you clicked a suspicious link online or in an email message.

    Will Microsoft ever call me?
There are some cases where Microsoft will work with your Internet service provider and call you to fix a malware-infected computer—such as during the recent cleanup effort begun in our botnet takedown actions. These calls will be made by someone with whom you can verify you already are a customer. You will never receive a legitimate call from Microsoft or our partners to charge you for computer fixes.

To help protect against viruses and other malicious software, download Microsoft Security Essentials.

Windows 8 includes antivirus protection that’s turned on by default.

    Laura
Ottawa, Ontario. Got a call from an Indian man claiming to be from Microsoft, wanted me to turn on my computer to fix an error message he said was sent to him, wouldn't give me an error code number or the type of error. My husband is a computer guy so I said if he gave me the code or the error message I could get my husband to fix, he said it's just an error and to turn on my computer, I said no like 10 times during the 4 minute conversation, told him to give me his number and I would get my husband to call him back, he said bye and I repeated my request for the number for my husband to call and he said bye again and hung up.

They say they are from Microsoft which is total BS. They want you to hold the windows key and the R key so they can mess with your PC...run a command or something.
I play around with them, act all concerned, then tell them they are full of [***].

My client got a call from them & she isn't computer savy & they managed to crash her computer. They wanted her to send money & when she refused they crashed her laptop & it had to be all redone. Never trust any one that calls wanting info. Do not give them nothing & do not install any thing that you do not know what it is. Do not give any one access to your pc. Microsoft would not be calling any one.

we recently got 3 calls.. from 1-207-490-0260 claiming that they are from windows, anyhow.. last nigh my husband answered  the phone and said that we had no issues with the computer, then the guy told him that if we don't do what he says our computer will crash . today again, saying that he needs to get on the computer to fix the issue, my husband said to be careful of what he's asking for, then the guy hung up. then earlier, i got the call,  i let the guy talk because i recognized the number, then caught his make believe name, with a very strong accent, something like mike smith from windows, anyhow.. i said i'm sorry mr. smith but we have no computers... how would we need help then.. then he hung up..

i went online to www.whocalled.info and put the number in and saw all the complaints very similar to mine..

    then i went to .. http://misternumber.com/1-207-490-0260

it said underneath Location: Maine, Sanford, York County  so.... anyhow... i just think that this would be an easy way of find this guy ...
