Phone scam! A male called me from 208-968-7990 to try and coerce money from me to settle a payday loan he claimed I took out two years ago. I have never taken out a payday loan, much less defaulted on one. He was abusive and volatile throughout the call, and evasive when I probed for details. He claimed to have received my file from Titan Group LLC and threatened me with a felony arrest for bank fraud, and kept telling me I'd "have my day in court."

Just to repeat myself, I never took out a payday loan. He kept telling me to keep up my pretense and I would be served at work with the paperwork. He also kept offering a secondary explanation to my denial; I must have forgotten, but he was here to help. He claimed the balance owed was over $1600, but would settle with me, today, for $795. The only thing that gave his claims any credibility was that he had a few details about me: my name, the name of my employer, the last four numbers of my SSN, the name of my bank, and, obviously, my phone number.

I know this is a scam because, well, I never took out a payday loan, but also because he stumbled all over himself when I pressed for more information. Additionally, he broke the fairness in debt collecting act (or whatever it's called) by threatening me, telling me I committed a crime, not giving me any details, and telling me that he would contact my employer. These are all against the law. Lastly, I checked my credit report and no such inquiry was listed, nor has ever been listed. If I had an outstanding collection for the last two years, it would have been reported, methinks.

He was pretty rude - so much so that he became unbelievable, but still a little frightening. I called the local police and will call the BBB.

I received this call today also! and I have been searching internet everywhere to find something. This man claimed to have the same story with me but said i owed 1300 dollars. He knew my last four of social, my email address, my address and my bank. Would not give me any info. I hung up and called back and "transferred twice" to the exact same sounding guy. He then claimed to be with a legal processing company and told me I must be "yanking his chain" or I had forgotten about it. I told him I am looking at my credit report right now and I see nothing of the sort you are speaking of. He wouldn't give me any info. I hung up and called back five minutes later and it now goes to voice mail. I reported this number to the FTC immediately! He wouldnt give me name but he said he was an affiliate of Greenwood Holdings LLC

Got a call today also. I'm calling back tommorow to ask for a letter in mail with all the facts on it. I also want his name and company name or I'm hiring a lawyer.

Just got a call and no voicemail was left, i just going to block the number and call it a day.

I also received a call yesterday however only got a voice mail saying that I needed to call back with a reference number I tried calling today and nothing happens then I Googled the number and found all this out Thank you

This number called my land line for my son and left the same type of message.  His name was listed on a claim and he needed to call back immediatley before further action was taken. The also gave him a claim number to refer to when returning the call.   My son no long lives with us.  I talked my son and he told me that this number also called his cell phone.  He called the police and reported this number 208-968-7990.

Called from 844-213-0038. Returned call and it was a Mediation Firm.  They are debt collectors.  They received the account from Titan Group LLC. who is a 3rd. party lender for payday loans.  The first person I talked to when I called back was quite aggressive and rude, and hung up on me when I pointed out that they could not call my employer, or anything else they were threatening me with, I was protected from such harassment under Federal Law with the Fair Credit Protection Act.  I called back and got a little more info from a young lady who explained to me what they had.  She was much friendlier after I explained the conversation with the previous lady.  I told her to contact Titan Group and tell them that I want written proof of origination of debt, where they deposited this so-called "Loan" and when it was rejected by my bank.
With this info I will be able to prove the debt is not mine.  Also, I will be able to find out if I am a victim of Identity Theft.
