Call from IRS saying to call them as they are going to file a law suit on us.

We had a message on the answering machine yesterday saying the same thing: IRS is coming after you! Scary.

On 4/25/15, I got the automated female robot voice saying there is a lawsuit against me.
After the heart rush, I thought, "the IRS calling on a Saturday?! "

Also received an automated call from this number on April 28, 2015 saying the IRS is filing a lawsuit against us. Tried to call the number back, got a busy signal.

We got the same message on our answering machine today.

I received a call from a woman who obviously haltingly and very slowly tried to make her voice sound like a robot. She claimed she was the IRS. She gave me this number to call because I was going to be sued by the IRS. I am not the one who makes the most money in our house because my husband is. My husband did not receive a call they didn't care about him. We file together. This call is crazy. We are both in everything jointly. Why just me being sued? I called the number back at night. I got a recording like you would get at a residence and not a business saying to leave a message. I actually have the real IRS phone number which is 1-800-829-1040 so I called it to see what would happen. I got a business greeting giving hours of service, music in the background, and etc. because they were closed. 209-266-1395 is a fraud and will be reported tomorrow to the real IRS number just as soon as they open tomorrow.

Stated she was with irs, officer name ellie martin, badge #e164132; stated she had a warrant for my arrest due to taxes being figured wrong, i owed the irs $2,968.

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.

By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.

Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.

They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.

Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.

The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.

Yup IRS scam call, going to sue me, bring it on

I got a crazy call from this with a very similar voice of the automated irs, saying this is my final notice that I am being sued by the irs gave that # to call back but the original # that called was 509-587-3092... heart dropped called the real IRS # and they said it's a scam the IRS will never call or leave a message it's all done by certified mail.

Got the exact same message today - same phone #209-266-1395 - same message - final notice, going to sue me - and my voice mail said it was from 509-587-3092.  Knew it was goofy but how great to find you all here - (not that it was great that you had it happen!!)

I got the same call.  I told them I deleted all my e-mails and lost my tax records.  I'm not worried... they won't go after Hillary and can't even keep their house clean.  Bring the law suit on!!

Well I never answered the call. Guess its just another scam claiming the IRS is out to get you. Do people still fall for this crap? The IRS never calls you about outstanding taxes you owe, Then send you something in the mail. I wished I had taken the call, I love to screw with people like this. I say things like "do you mind if I record this call?" Or can I have your full name company you work for and a address verification to confirm your identity. Usually by this time they have hung up on me.

I love to mess with people like this too. Tell them things like go ahead, I am broke, unemployed and on welfare. Sue all you want can't get any money out of me. I don't own anything and have no savings.

Just got the same call at my office. Never trust an automated message. ALWAYS google the phone number. Thanks to all of you for posting about this.

I got an intimidating and  scary call from this number. I was told that they were from the IRS fraud department and that I was about to be arrested. They also said that all of my assets would be seized because I owed $3k in back taxes. They also wanted $10k "security deposit" to stop the arrest. I needed to pay this immediately or I would be arrested. They knew my full name and address.

if i owed the IRS money why would I get a refund this year? Wouldn't the people sending you checks have a default against you and take what you owe before they pay you?

I got same call at 8;oo am on saturday .
