- SWFL Gal| 5 repliesReceived a call from this number. We do not answer numbers that we do not recognize. The caller left a message that it was the IRS and a lawsuit was being filed against us. We were to call this number for more information. I looked up the IRS in Lodi CA and it was not this number. Very suspicious.

- Adam replies to Will| 2 repliesGot a call, called them back, got a guy who asked if I was so and so, I said no, I am mr. so and so. Then they hung up. I called back and now it goes to busy signal. Should I be concerned? I don't know what they could get from just my last name, even if they heard it and spelled it right, which I doubt.

- Gwenivere replies to Raini| 1 replyI too received a voice message from the IRS with this number and called it back and spoke to an "Agent Johnson". I was told that an Arrest Warrant was issued and I'd lose my driver's license. Mine even went as far as giving me a case number and what years' this was regarding. I was also told that when I move, I have to go to local IRS office and update my address. I got badge numbers for the first agent I spoke to and for the "Supervisor" I was transferred to. The Supervisor's name that was given to me was "Officer Thomas Bryant". I can't believe I actually engaged these "freaks" in conversation, arguing with them that I had no idea what they were talking about. Officer "Bryant" told me he would get back to me with additional information. What a Joke?????!!!!!!
I called my local police department knowing that something wasn't right. So, when I got an officer on the phone, as soon as I said I got a call from the IRS, he stopped me and said, "IT'S A SCAM"!!! Thank God I didn't give any of these [***] any personal information! What makes people do this??? It's crazy!!! - AliceI got a call, same as everyone else. I think they tried to scare me with "law suit" against me. I could barely understand the woman, told her so, and told her to have an American call me. I'm a retired legal secretary from one of the largest firms in the country. I don't care easily!

- BobJust got a call from this number and got a message saying something about the IRS and a lawsuit. Obviously the IRS would never call like that so I just laughed and hanged up. Next time I’ll have some fun if a live person comes after the recording.

- KarenI got a call from the same number this morning claiming to be from the irs, looking for my mother, the whole thing was very fishy to me so I told my mother not to give them any information, after telling the woman on the phone that I was not my mother she still proceeded to tell me about the "law suit" formed against my mother. Common sense will tell you that the real irs does not discuss someone's personal affairs with the law to anyone who isn't their lawyer. Also the irs would never request money by western union

- JeffreyI got the same phone call also. I actually engaged them and played along for almost 20 minutes. The "agent Mr. White" was getting very frustrated with me pretending not to understand him in his native language. I told them I did not own a cell phone. I was instructed to go to Walmart and purchase a pre-paid cell as this was the only method that I could use to resolve my debt and pending law suit with the IRS. I asked if I could go to Target instead of Walmart? He did not understand why I did not want to go to Walmart. We went back and fourth until I started laughing, then he scolded we for not taking this matter to heart... Ultimately the phone call ended when he could not answer a question that I had asked. I called back and played a bit more... tell me what you did @ nychef@aol.com

- Jeffrey replies to AdamIts a IRS scam, these animals obtain your tel number and name, address from public records and internet sales than try to scare you into sending them money. The IRS would never accept a wire or funds transfer for outstanding tax debt.

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone. US mail only. IRS does not file lawsuits. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes. IRS has no powers of arrest. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of money. IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.
. - CWG40 replies to AdamTotal scam. IRS does not initiate contact by phone. Ignore and block the calls. Calls originate in India and Pakistan.
- Candace WilliamsThey called me and left a vmail about being sued by IRS. When I called back, they answered right away. A clear indication that they are fake (IRS doesn't call and definitely don't answer their phone without going through hoops). They hung up on me when I questioned them. I called them 6 times to harass them back after an Indian guy told me I didn't know how to talk to a federal officer.... Lol!!!! I reported them but I think they got the point.
