Got a call from this number. Caller ID: "ANGELS CAMP CA". Woman on the line said hello, heard chatter in the background. I said hello and waiting a few seconds, then the call went dead.

No clue what it was for, but it's on my annoyance list.

Just got a call from this number.  The thickly accented voice tried to speak above a lot of background noise saying he was from Microsoft and they had seen that my computer was infected with a virus.  He told me that my computer had sent a notice to Microseft that morning.  My computer had been off all morning as I was at work. I even asked him what he selling. He couldn't hear that because the background noise got louder.  Then I told that I'll take it in to a shop and hung up.

Caller said he was from the "Department of Windows". Said my computer was infected. I played along for a while, trying to sound dumb. He wanted me to "concentrate on the keyboard." I'll bet he did. When he told me what keystrokes to enter, I said, "I have a question- how stupid do you think I am?" I told him only department of Windows I knew of was at local home improvement stores. He kept trying to convince me, so I asked him, if he really thought he was going to talk me into this. CLICK. I have received calls before from the similar sounding individuals that said they were from the "Computer Department of California". The first time I couldn't help but laugh out loud and hang up. The second time I played along like I was old and senile and said the computer was my son's and that he had a lot of "banking stuff" on it and that I would try to find the passwords for him. He said he would call back the next day. He did, and I answered the phone: "Inspector Stevens, Secret Service" CLICK.
Since the number was a local call for me I called it back and a heavily accented female voice said that the person I was trying to reach was unavailable- leave a message.

Same story as the above, male caller was foreign.  Since he said he knew my computer I asked what operating system I was running and he got it wrong.  It said Angels Camp on the caller ID.  As I live near Angels Camp, I am wondering what's up with that.

This same number and person called me. Showing Angels Camp CA on the caller id. There is a video about the Microsoft scam. They get access to your computer and are trying to sell you some service. I am on the do not call registry and I am called at least 2 times per month from this company for the past yr. I don't even answer my phone anymore as they are typically the ones on the other line. They caught me off guard today. I even told them I don't have a computer and another time I told them I had an Apple with hopes they would stop calling. Unfortunately it hasn't worked.

Foreign guy said he was from windows and noticed that we had a computer virus and he wanted us to go to run: and enter some letters.  my husband then told him he was not going to do that b/c he didn't know who he was, etc. then hung up.
i was curious b/c i was actually just in the middle of downloading something on my laptop when he happened to call. it was purely a coincidence though.

I keep getting calls from Angels camp in california im so sick of this they keep wanting me to go into my computer and fix things for them this is a scam.

The phone rang but the line was dead when I picked it up. This is thanks to my Telezapper I have inline. Doesn't get all of the stuff but it gets most of them.

I actually DO have a virus.  Some one has hacked into my email and these people keep calling me saying they are from Microsoft Windows Department.  I played along with them today since it seems awfully fishy that I got this virus 3 days ago and that's when they started calling me.  They said they noticed I have been getting some "unwanted emails and they see I have a virus on my computer" I said "yes, that's true".  They said they could walk me thru the problem, that I would have to enter some information for them on my computer.  I then said to them "why are you calling me about this problem instead of Verizon".  CLICK, they hung up.  I don't understand why no one can find these people and shut them down since they do have caller ID.  I am in Pennsylvania, their number did come up on my called ID...I called the number back but no one answered.

We can no longer believe the phone number we see on our caller IDs (CID) belongs to the person who called!  The bad guys are now using easily accessed technology to "spoof" the CID numbers, so their real number does not appear.

The problem has gotten so bad, the US government actually passed an Act, called "The Truth in Caller ID Act of 2009", making such spoofing illegal.  See http://www.fcc.gov/guides/caller-id-and-spoofing

The FCC adopted that Act in June, 2010, stating that violators could be fined up to $10,000 for each violation.

However, the bad guys are ignoring this law ... after all, they are criminals, and that is what criminals do.  Although we now have a "law" against spoofing, it is very difficult to enforce it.

So, if you see a CID number on your phone when you are called by some scammer or telemarketer, it might not belong to the scammer!  It might be the number of some unsuspecting third party ... or, it might be one of those numbers that charge $25 (plus about $9 per minute) if you call it back.

If you want to avoid email-borne virii, change your email client to accept only TEXT email messages.  HTML email messages (and/or images) can carry payloads.

I am from a Microsoft Windows department and it has been reported that your computer is having problems.

I confronted him and told him I was aware of the scam and remove me from his list.

got a call supposedly from a Windows tech saying they knew i was infected earlier today when I too have been out when i told them i don't trust foreign out sourced calls they hung up

just received call from same phonenumber female unable to understand except I did pick up words computer and virus

got a call supposedly from a Windows tech saying they knew i was infected earlier today the person even knew my name.  I told I had a Apple machine and he said that I had windows machine.  I told him I didn't believe him and he hung up.  I frustrated him.  :)

I received this same call from a "windows tech" and I played along with him for 20 minutes just screwing with him.  I kept making him tell me where something was because I said I couldn't find it and didn't understand what he was talking about.  I talked slow and acted like I was very concerned.  When I got tired of it, I told him I knew it was all a scam and to F off.  He hung up.   haha

They need SCAM call as a call type to pick from.

I live in Shawnee OK and got this call from alegedly Microsoft. Always do reverse caller  ID before believing in these goddamn scamming fools.

Just got a call very similar to those I read about on this website.  Very thick Asian accent claiming to be from the "Windows Department" trying to tell me my computer had been sending them messages that I had downloaded some malware, etc.  I told him I did not do business like this over the phone and not to call again.  He said it was his "duty" to call and let me know....I hung up.  Is there any office or department to contact and report such calls?
