They called and posed as AT&T. I asked 3 times and was told each time that they were AT&T and they could reduce my phone bill by about $10 each month by consolidating it. I agreed and then was transferred to another extension and when I asked that woman if it was AT&T, she mumbled "no it's LDBC". When I said I'm not agreeing to anything unless it is AT&T, she hung up! I had to call the real AT&T to make sure they didn't hijack my phone service from them. I also put a freeze on my phone line so that another company cannot hijack my number in the future.

Same thing happened to me, George. I work for a business, and my boss (the owner) was gone.  These people called and posed as AT & T.  I told them that my boss deals with the phone service and they would need to talk with him.  The person said, "Yes, we've talked with him and he said that you or Sharon (my co-worker) could finish up the details."  That sounded so plausible to me, I agreed.  Then they put me through all this crap and it was nothing but a scam.  DON'T TALK TO THESE PEOPLE!

if you use whitepages app on andriod it traces it back to a cell phone, the first thing you should notice is that its a cellphone and no company shows that its scam.

They called in today and posed as a rep from Century Link saying we had an overcharge on our account. I then transferred them to the correct dept. When they did not answer the gal called back and asked for a fax number. Then asked my name. She then mispronounced the name of the individual who I originally transferred her to and said that I was actually authorized to complete the verification process. I then said I had no authority to authorize anything and then passed them on to the accounting dept. I knew it did not sound right from the beginning.

I called on behalf of an elderly family member to set up long distance services with Suddenlink.  After the services were set up, and the call ended then these people (210)418-8995  immediately called  back saying that they had to do 3rd party verification for services to be installed by Suddenlink.  They asked for my personal information, and I told them that I didn't want any services, the service was for a family member who was too elderly to set up services on their own.  I then handed the phone to the family member, who handed it back to me, and the lady making the call insisted that she didn't want her information, she wanted my information.  I said, "Lady, I don't even live here.  I'm just visiting, and she asked me to help her make this call.  This has absolutely nothing to do with me."  She told me that if I didn't give her my date of birth then Suddenlink wouldn't install the service, and that I would have to go through all the same process over again, if I ever wanted service.  I told her "Good luck with that ever happening."   She hung up, and I didn't call the number she gave me, I called the number in the phone book.  The supervisor at Suddenlink told me that they didn't need any of that information, and that services would be installed as planned.  I was relieved, until the same exact lady called again, after my second conversation with Suddenlink. She said that she was sorry that we had gotten disconnected earlier?  I told her that the supervisor at Suddenlink said that  the information she was asking was unneeded.  I don't know who they are.  Perhaps they are someone trying to undermine Suddenlinks business, or maybe they are just trying to steal ID's. There is nothing on their caller ID except the number.

A scum bag posing as an AEP employee tried to get account information from me this afternoon. He asked to see a bill because of something or other. He was talking so fast and with my dogs barking - it was hard to tell. His badge/emblems all looked legit but next thing I knew he was trying to get my signature on his tablet and to answer a phone call verifying that I consented. That's when it all clicked. Please do not entertain these idiots, I can't believe they almost got me!

Yeah, they just slammed your utility bill over to their overpriced service.  Now if you don't know who called you and they called you from an 800 number why are you posting in this thread?

No, I would call you present utility up and tell them that you want to stay with them.  I would also file a complaint with your Public utility Commission.  Also, you should have the right to concel that contract within three days, but you would have to do that in writing.  Since these people did not leave you any paper work that would be a problem.

I would also make a report to your local PD since they are going door to door and probably need a license to do that.

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
