Someone called from an unknown number saying that my "Windows computer" had something wrong with it & "did you get all of the messages.  If you have your computer with you, I can lead you to it right now".  I didn't want him to lead me to a website to steal my information, so I hung up after I got his number.  Possibly a scam artist.

These guys have been using this number for some time...  try to get you to go to a website on your computer so they can infect it, or encrypt your files and try to get ransom from you.

there is no shortage of these slimeballs...

just google "microsoft called me to fix my computer" to see how prevalent they are.

I just received a call from a man with a heavy Indian accent who said he was a service provider for all the Windows operating systems. He asked if I had received their messages about corrupted applications that had been corrupted by downloading files from the Internet. The call showed in caller ID as Anonymous.
He said his name was David Martin and his employee ID was 108GHY.

Microsoft, or any company, cannot tell you what's wrong with your computer before they've even looked at it. However, when a foreign 3rd world criminal tricks you into turning over control of your computer - then - you've got computer problems, because they'll put it there. No one should touch your computer except you, and a repair tech at a brick & mortar repair store. The computer repair phone call is a well known scam. Hang up on them!

This is a COMPLETE SCAM.  Do not give them any information.  We took his information and  I contacted our IT guy and he said no one from Windows would ever be able to tell if you have any problems with millions of users.  Be smart and hang up.

Shut down your computer.  Quicktime.   Take it to a trusted IT person.   Have it checked for every possible malware infection a computer might have.  I'm no expert in this area. But that's what I'd advise.

Also, if you gave out any financial information like credit card numbers go to the bank and get a new  card.  If there were any passwords, you'll have to change all those too.   Any financial accounts that might have been on your computer will have to be changed as well.  Be on the lookout for any fraudulent activity in any financial account you might have.

Don't ever give strangers access to your computer.  Do not give out financial information over the phone.   This scam is being perpetrated by scammers in India/Pakistan and has been around for years.

Anytime you receive a call from a person with an Indian accent who either threatens you or offers you something, you can be almost 100% sure it's a scam.  Nothing against Indians or [***], that's just the way it is.

    U don't know Jack
Same scenario as Kate....I just received a call from a man with a very heavy Indian accent who said he was a service provider for all the Windows operating systems. He asked if I had received their messages about corrupted applications that had been corrupted by unsolicited downloading files from the Internet. The call showed in caller ID as Anonymous.
He said his name was Sebastian (Indian???). When I asked how they could know this, his response was that my computer was sending error reports to windows support (what?? I did not know my computer was that intelligent). I told him that I wanted him to give me the phone number for his Windows Support Center. He told me it was 210-429-7266. I asked him if he was located outside the USA and his response (in his very heavy Indian accent) was that he was located in San Antonio....which agrees with the source location of the phone number he gave me. I thanked him for the info he provided to me and told him I would call him back at the office number he gave me and said good-bye. Instead of my calling the number I did a reverse phone look-up only to find that the number has been used in numerous assorted scams (am I really surprised????). So there, I have wasted time writing this comment, wasted time looking up the phone number, and wasted time talking to the idiot on the phone.I can only hope that my time was not entirely wasted by being able to help anyone understand and recognize what these scammers are.like. They need to get a real job and leave us honest folks alone. ANTI-SCAMMERS UNITE!!!!!
