SCAM ----IF your husband was in trouble, a process server would show up unannounced.  It is also illegal to threaten arrest. This would be a civil matter anyway!   Would an honest, professional company hang up on you??

Just got a call from them and below is the message they left. I didn't call back. Figured I would google the number first which brought me here.

"This is James Thompson with pre-trial
intervention. You have a pending case in our office that needs your immediate attention. I need to speak with you or your attorney of record immediately today. My number is 2107744150. If I do not hear from you or your attorney. I will document that you wave your right to counsel and submit your case. Cover yourself accordingly."

I got the same call from 2107744130. I don't live in Texas or do I write checks. I just got a voice mail as I didn't pick up. Didn't get a name of the person they asked to speak to me they never said my name or my attorney. Told me to call back immediately and good luck. They were from a check fraud division. This is a scam right

You didn't sign a contract with them and therefore do not owe them! In tx if the original lender could not collect on the debt it is considered bad debt! Don't settle with ANY debt collector because it won't b removed from your credit if it ISNT the original lender! Tell them do it! They can't! Bad checks? They aren't the payday loan people and most sates will do nothing with payday loans because they are guilty of 1 kind of fraud or anither

I have my lawyer acting on my behalf to get to the bottom of what this actually is, and if this is a legitimate claim. He doesn't think so, but they are making jump through the normal hoops

    >> they are making jump through the normal hoops <<

Is that what your "lawyer" is claiming?
    IF so .... hmmmm.

Y'see, in order to validate the debt, the collector MUST send you a snailmailed "validation notice" letter, within five days of first contact.  The collector must do that ... all you or your lawyer have to do is wait.

Is you lawyer charging by the hour to wait for that letter, or is a "friend" pretending they are a TV lawyer?

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:

    * Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money.   ["Written" means snailmailed ... not emailed or texted]

IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit  the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:

If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:
