its a scam... they contacted me and used teamviewer (from teamviewer.com) to connect remotely to my computer.  Did the call back thing with me too... probably to make me stew, thinking my computer had a virus.  When called back I spoke to someone who claimed to be the supervisor, when i asked how they recieved the virus info when i do not send errors to microsoft, she got defensive and says (screaming at me) "SO YOU DON'T WANT TO FIX THE VIRUS...", I asked her to please tone it down and answer my question.  I was then promptly cut-off from her and returned to representative who then attempted to sell me their virus protection and a remote desktop (so that they could access my machine), for $160 for a lifetime subscription.  Well I already have virus protection... he says "but its not working otherwise it would have picked this up"...  i said i'll have to take that up with the people i purchased the virus protection from... he didn't like that and said then you can handle the virus yourself, goodbye!..

To further, the files he deleted where in my active directory's temp dir, which will accumulate files when software is installed or updated... this is normal... he said "that those files were installed by the virus... I said "NOT" (in my mind) as some are for SQL server, some adobe products, etc.... then he shows me services that he claimed were shutdown by the virus (using msconfig)... I thought NOT (in my mind again), knowing that not all services are running or are meant to be running all the time, otherwise the system would be so slow it would be pathetic.

FInally, he claimed that my system would stop working soon... well thanks dude but i'll keep my $160 and just wait and see.  He called his company -  HAWK TECH

P.S. I think i might get ahold of teamviewer.com and tell them that their software is being used in a scam and see what they say...  it might be a good idea for others to do this as well, so that we can get this out in the open.

Similar story. Somebody (he said his name is Markdan Clary) called to our home and claimed to my wife that they are from Microsoft. Anyway, my wife was not convinced and finally did not agreed to download and run the software from www.teamviewer.com. The phone number he called from is a local number (Alberta, Canada) but he said their official phone number is 210-888-0671 and call them back.

    Hi there,
I got a call from an indian guy on May 3rd. He said he is calling on behalf of Microsoft and they have detected some viruses and trojans in my comp[uter, after chatting for an hour or so he convinced me and I unfortunately let him to install bunch of crappy useless softwares in my laptop, they were computer cleaner, optimizer and remote desktop. He eventually charged me 93.87$ for his service. After reviewing the comments put down in this website I scared too much. I think it was a scam, because my computer still has alot of problem, its slower rather than before and every time i tried to reach Wren Brown on 0210 888 0671 he wasn't there,

I got a similar call with the person saying his name was "Shawn Brown" but he had an obvious Pakistani/Indian accent.  So very unlikely that was his real name.  I do not have call display on my phone but I *69'd it, I live in Ontario, and it came up as a blocked number.  I asked for the company he was calling from and he said Hawks Tech Live and that his contact number was the same 210-888-0671 number all of you were given.  I looked up the company online as I talked to him and found the following web page: http://hawkstechlive.com/
Whether he was truly a representative of this company or not I have no clue as the page clearly states the company is based in the United Kingdom.
When he first started talking he claimed that they had "...received a series of 'Error Report Messages' from your computer Mr XXXX.  We'd like you to log into your computer and let us connect to it to help you fix the problem." At which point I informed him I do not send in error reports for problems I get with any software.  He tried to claim they were automatic.  So I asked him well which company is your company doing tech support on behalf of to be getting error reports from my computer seeing I know for a fact that I have no software from Hawks Tech Live installed on my computer.  He tried to tell me I don't understand what I meant.  I corrected him and said yes I do, I have worked in tech support, I build computers myself and do programing I from whence I speak.  So then he switched and tried to say that they were coming by means of my ISP and I said "Oh really what ISP would that be?"  He told me it was Rowser ISP.  I asked him to hold and did a quick search and said to him, "Funny, that's not the ISP I am on and I just did a search on the net on an international ISP listing site and there is no such ISP by that name."  Oh I am sorry sir then I must have the wrong phone number and the wrong Mr XXXX.  So I spoke up, "Common you know you got the right one, admit it, you blind called me off a stock list.  You lied and tried to get me to give you access to my machine so you could do god knows what to it to make it appear I had virus's or whatever so you could swindle me into believing the only solution I had was pay you some money to download and install your software and solve my problem for me.  This was all about you making some money.  Wasn't it?"  To my surprise he actually said yes.  I said "Good thank you for admitting it.  I am now calling the police and reporting your company.  So do not call me back every again.  Thank yo and have a nice day!"

My dad fell for the trap and remotely access his computer.  Of course the $160 as well as credit card info.  What can we do now???

What to do replies to feijujai
Close the credit card. Contact where ever the $160 was taken from and dispute it. Tell them you did not authorize the charge. Let them take care of it, then close THAT account.

Get a computer geek (Best Buy, etc) and explain what happened. Ask them if there is something they can do to his computer to keep it from happening again, let them do their thing.

Just had a call from the same group. Asked about how if got my number and was fed the same line as everyone. The line went "all funny" when I told him I was in Law Enforcement.

It's a Scam don't be fooled, contact and report this to your local Police Service of Jurisdiction and tell them you wish to report a fraud.

They will ask for details etc, so supply them the contact name and number of the person that called you. I would direct them to this site also.

Well, glad I looked in a few places.... I can see that this scam has been going for awhile.  I just got a call from Unknown Name and Unknown Number at 6:31 June 21 2011.  Hello Mrs. XXXX", I asked who wanted to know?  He continued with a desparate tone "I am calling from Texas and we have a report that your computer is sending us error messages.  We would like to help you protect your computer from a lethal virus".  I said "My computer is sending you a message....who are you?"  We are working with Microsoft, please open your computer and I can assist in protecting your computer".  I should have asked him how many of my computers were sending messages.  I told him that my IT department would take care of it but he told me that they would not know what to do in this instance. I said I would not open my computer for anyone to hack into, so I asked for him name and phone number, I would check into this and, if it was legitimate, I would call back.  "yes, yes, please call me back.  My name is Neil Parker (ha ha ha, noone with this accent has that name), I am with Hawk tech live and my number is 210-888-0671.  Well I am glad to find that others are sharing their scam calls (I don't trust anyone when they call) but I'm sure that many fall for this..... remember the accent.  Always get a call back number and name (no doubt Neil Parker will not be there if I call back...and maybe I will just to tell them that a million people know this is a scam) and check out phone scams on the internet.
    Thanks everyone.....
    Hope, BC

I got a call at home today here in Toronto from a guy talking in broken english with the same story as most here.claiming to be from Microsoft and needed to remove a virus in my infected computer.
I asked him"what does Microsoft have to do with my computer.First off, tell me who my Internet provider is,and tell me my IP address at this moment.(he couldn't obviously tell me anything). My Internet provider would call if they saw a major problem, not Microsoft AND THEY WOULDN'T CALL ME AT ALL BECAUSE I HAVE A MACBOOK PRO,SO BUZZ OFF,

For those not tech savy, all they have to do if they are not sure about the validity of the call, make the guy tell you your internet provider,e-mail address, and  IP address if available, but don't tell him if he is right or wrong for any of those items. That should end the call from his end.

Adding one more to the blog trail. I just got the call; I worked for Microsoft and know they are very serious when working with their partners and customers. So all of you are correct this cannot be a true company and or a serious business. Be very careful with this call. Thank you all for your comments, it took me about 2 seconds to find this blog after Mr. Brown gave me his number. If you get a call like this one PLEASE END THE CALL IMMEDIATELY.

From the sound of the backgroung noise at Hawksview Live it's a fairly large scam operation. When I refused to download Teamviewer, which he wanted me to do, he gave me the 210 888-0617 number and asked me to call him back. Instead I called Teamviewer to see if they were aware of this scam. I was advised that they are and they're trying to shut it down. They have tried to block Hawktech and have reported them to the police and because the scam is originating from India Interpol has been advised. If you google hawkstech live you will see they are advertising jobs in India. Don't get tricked folks...
