212-044-1236

I got a phone call from 212-044-1236 saying that my computer had problems and they needed to fix it. They said my name and The guy sounded Indian and was very insistent. I asked who was calling and he said that was from pcspeedy.com. I said that I was going to research the website and hang up.

Its a scam.  It shows up in several places on this board.  Apparently there are several groups using the same scam and they all use different phone numbers.

If you fall for it they will walk you throught the steps to let them into your computer.  They will then run something that says "errors" and "delete" and other scarry words but really normal, not evidence of a problem.  Next the scammer will talk you into paying him to remove the fake errors.  After you give him your credit card or bank account number he will install malware.

My neighbor fell for it.  I found out about a month later and told her it was a scam.  She took her tower to a local computer repair place.  They discovered that the scammers had turned off her anti-virus software.  They never did find anything else the scammers did.  But, better safe than sorry, she replaced her tower.  And she changed all of her bank account numbers.

This number is indeed the same one I got - computer scam from a hindi sounding guy named Mike.
Of course, knowing this bullcrap is circulating around, I mouthed off to the turd, and hung up.

Got a call 10 minutes ago.  A woman said, "Hello?" and didn't say anything more.  I just picked up the phone & turned it off.  It came up "Unknown Name".

They just call & don't leave a message…

 A guy that didn't give his name and gave no reason for calling and had a strange accent called from this number. He started asking weird questions about my computer starting with the question "Are you the owner of the computer in your home?". I hung up then because I thought it was very weird.

I just received a call on our work line from 212-044-1236 reading "NEW YORK". A man on the other line said he was calling to service our computers by phone. I asked who requested this service but he did not reply. When I asked him his name he said "Bruce" and when I asked for a last name, he replied "Willis"... Bruce Willis I asked. And the man rudely asked if I speak English. I laughed at the absurdity and he hug up. This is a joke, don't fall for it.

It's a scam.... don't fall for it.  A guy who had a thick accent called and told me was calling in regards to my computer.  I told him that I knew he was a scam artist and I wouldn't fall for it.  Just hung up on him.
He gave a fake company name.  Also, it came up on my caller ID as "name not found".

They called my girl friend.  They told her that she just got a new computer and something was wrong with it.  She said that she wanted them to call back later when I was home.  I looked up the number and saw all comments on this number.

Apparently whoever is perpetrating these prank and/or scam calls is now using another similar moniker: 212-077-1236 for their next “gig”.
An unsolicited and unwanted call was made to our phone using 212-044-1236 in the PM of 11.15.2013 and a male voice leaving a goofy “Hello, hello, hello...” message was left with no other identifying comments.
Call made again today in the PM appearing as 212-077-1236 with no message whatsoever left this time.
We suspect this is the same scammer that have been repeatedly parading as 212-044-1236 because it's a very similar number and has same call back characteristics (number out of service).
We recommend registering with https://www.donotcall.gov/ (we have done this), and also spreading the news whoever is using  212-044-1236 may now be using 212-077-1236, so that more people can block and stonewall this scammer for good.
