This number was utilized to fraudulently obtain money claiming to be the IRS.

Remember these criminals use scare tactics to get people to wire funds, take out cash and put on reload cards or obtain credit card information. No government agency will work in this manner. Call 911 or your local police to confirm or check out the web before you send any money. Make sure you file complaints with FCC, local political office and of course online (like 800notes) to get the word out.

Don't become another victim.

Someone by the alias named Paul Mason, with a heavy Indian/Asian accent, claiming to be a US federal tax attorney, has a subpoena and claming to be from the US IRS Audit Division calling regarding fraudulent taxes and money laundering.  He also named a parallegal officer who also contacts people.  It sounds like a call center since there are other phones ringing and people speaking to other people.  They are calling and leaving messages that you have felony charges like money laundering, tax evasion, and other federal crimes related to money.  

Same thing happened to me same #. matt Cooper, not really an Indian name!!! Don't fall for it...

Some Paul Mason just called me.. He had an accent and said that he was an IRS agent in charged of my case.... Exactly the same thing as stated above... He said that there was a suit against me and that I needed to settle within the hour otherwise the police will be at door steps to take me in.... SOB.... Please get these guys and put them in jail or even better deport them out, but make sure that they go to the worst jail.

How would you suggest that a bunch of people who discuss unwanted callers on a forum go about getting those "guys"   and putting them in the worst jails?    They are already out of this country......their call centers are in south Asia.

I received multiple voicemails from an Indian sounding individual claiming that I have an IRS pending.  He claims to have sent multiple emails.  

1) IRS does not send emails
2) IRS does not use a phone call to initiate an Audit
3) IRS does not have a 213 phone number.

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $60.00 or so.

I received numerous phone calls from an unauthorized caller from 213-261-6417 and when I called Paul Mason stated that I hadn't made Federal Taxes between 2008 and 2013 and there was a warrant for my arrest.   Please get these people!!!

Said they were from the IRS. I hung up and they had the nerve to call back 2 more times in a row. I said you're a SCAM and then they finally hung up on me.

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

“This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,” says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. “If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don’t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn’t the IRS calling.” Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim’s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it’s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver’s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here’s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue – if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you’ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you’ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their “FTC Complaint Assistant” at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

I received a call from this number tonight and said I needed to call them about an audit. They said they had gotten no response from me by mail. His name is Michael White. I called # to see who would answer and got voice mail of Kevin Shoultz? Don't know if this was right last name because it was garbled. I believe thus us a scam because I never received a notice in the mail.

received 2 calls from this number. both stated from irs audit and that I needed to pay attention to this very important matter. gave me a long, official sounding case number. first call came in at 7am on a Friday morning (like the IRS would call at that hour). I said I was more comfortable with snail mail and hung up since I knew it was a scam. they called back in the afternoon and left a voice mail with this call back number with an urgent message to not disregard and call back. and then they finished the call with "have a blessed day." (again, like the IRS would say that at the end of a call.) I hope they don't get someone hooked and scam them!

The stated they were the IRS and I needed to pay them 1000,00 within the hour to ptrevent being artested for fraud,

I got this call this morning. It's said his name was Kevin Cho, with an Indian accent and the call was "for the recipient"...no specific name that loved in the house. And it was for a 1040 tax audit. So I got curious and goggled the number. Thanks for letting me know it's a scam. I was curious and went on instinct it was phony.

Just got this call on my voice mail and new immediately it was a scam. They called and didn't say a name for who they are looking for to call them back fishing for personal information ain't going to work on me.

This happened yesterday and today

He used this phone number - (202) 241-6134 today and tried to get me to send money via moneygram.  Thank God there was a notice on the Moneygram screen warning of IRS scams using Moneygram and that IRS does not endorse using Moneygram.

Received a call this A.M. from a lady who identified herself as Niki or Nicki Johnson with IRS. She did not identify the recipient of the call.  The number she left was for a return call is 213 426-1855.
