- Call type: Telemarketer
- Slim replies to chrisProbably time to obtain a call blocker device, app, or phone.
Google "call blocker" to see the various types, and find one that best meets your needs. - JakeThey have been calling everyday for the past week asking for someone else. I finally told them to stop calling and take my number off their list. The girl says sarcastically, "ok duuude... we'll try and leave you alone...". Are you kidding me??! What type of shady "business" is this??
- MjAsked for the home owner but didn't give an actual name and when I asked if I could take a message they said they would call back.
- SKeep getting calls from this number but they don't leave a message. When I answered and asked to be taken off whatever list they got snarky.
- Caller: they didn't say
- Call type: Telemarketer
- MHI've documented the number of calls dailey froom (213) 457-5829. They average "27" calls!!! That's absurd. They never leave a message and are sarcastic when you ask to be removed from their data base.

A recording comes on and it says they're offering you to put a sign on your front lawn in exchange for a home security system. After it plays it sas "If you want to be placed on our Do Not Call list press 9" *pressed 9 "You have been added to our internal do not call list"

- Slim replies to LAThank you for your report. Hopefully it will help other visitors recognize scam or spam phone calls.
Unfortunately, there is little evidence that visitors actually read previous answers, but the regular responders on 800notes continue to attempt to help. Hopefully you will return to read answers!
Here is a list of generic answers to many of the most frequently posted problems:- The Do Not Call list works as intended, but criminal spammers ignore the law.
- Do NOT call the number back! At best, that merely confirms your phone number.
- A list of (mainly government) sites where you can report spam/scam calls is at:
http://phonehelp.2truth.com/complaint_sites.html - Asking 800notes visitors to stop calling you is meaningless. We do not call you!
- Call blockers work. Use Google or your favorite search engine to find them.
- The IRS did NOT cold-call you!

Please reply to this post, to let us know you read it, or have taken suitable actions to protect yourself. - MIMI IN LOS ANGELESI DIDN'T OPT OUT OF THE AT&T PRIVACY SETTINGS FAST ENOUGH SO AT&T RELEASED MY PHONE NUMBER.
AT&T POT, Plain Old Telephone Service:
1-4-17 Tuesday: 8 Calls, 1-5-17 Wednesday: 16 Calls, 1-6-17 Thursday: 21 Calls. They call from before 8:30 am in the morning to 7:30pm at night. After we added a second AT&T landline the first landline blew up with Robocalls and would ring a couple of times and hang up. Each day there are over 20 Robo and Telemarketing calls. I report these numbers to the NATIONAL DO NOT CALL REGISTRY, but you have to be registered with the FTC for them to take your complaint (Once signed up it will take 30 days to get formally registered with the FTC). If it is a ROBOCALL then they will take your complaint immediately.
I don't answer the phone to these Caller IDs: UNAVAILABLE, TOLL FREE, AA etc. This is an invasion of privacy and cruel and unusual punishment. I no longer have quiet enjoyment inside my own home, which should be legally protected by the law....but it is not, when unscrupulous telecom companies decide your private information does not matter and expects you to pay fees for the privilege of maintaining your privacy.
When we changed our plan and added the 2nd landline, AT&T did not OPT me OUT of some of the privacy settings so the Telemarketing and Robo calls were flooding in within 4 days of the change of service. I was told that I had to switch it "ON" some of the features and privacy settings on their website myatt.com We were not able to log into our account for 7 days and would get an error message every time we tried to access our account and because we didn't lock up the PRIVACY SETTINGS the Robocalls and Telemarketers got our number
Last night we finally got some peace and quiet in the morning. Before I went upstairs to bed, I used an AT&T STAR CODE for DO NOT DISTURB
DND ON: *78#
DND OFF: *79#
It will give all callers a busy signal when they call your phone number.
8 days later I can finally log into myatt.com and turned on: CALLER ID COMPLETE BLOCKING; Tried to OPT OUT of many PRIVACY SETTINGS; Also put 213-457-5829 on SELECTIVE CALL REJECTION (which will only block 20 phone numbers). We have also called the AT&T Operator to make our landline phone number UNLISTED & UNPUBLISHED.
AT&T PRIVACY OPT OUT: The website is clunky and you have to Opt Out of many different privacy settings: E-MAILS, TELEMARKETING, POSTAL MAIL, AUTOMATED CALLS OR MESSAGES....To name a few. The AT&T website privacy policy is overly long and complicated and requires that you go to their website as well as call them by phone to complete the many different types of OPT OUT.....Too damn complicated.
When you call the AT&T Opt Out phone number (Residential - 1-800-288-2020), the operator in the Philippines acts like they don't know what an Opt Out is. Last night I spent 4 hours to straight some but not all of my privacy issues...not to mention all the hours I spent on the earlier phone calls to AT&T. Also I reached a some what competent AT&T operator in the Philippines when I called after midnight by dialing "0" (Operator was more awake and sharp because it was during their normal working hours in the Philippines). Normally AT&T's phone bank is closed 7pm PST.
I have ordered a CALL BLOCKER that will block 1000 phone numbers. I haven not received it but there is a big learning curve on how to operate this device. Ugh more time spent because AT&T says they keep your private information private....but they don't.
People have been complaining about 213-457-5829 since 2015. My question isn't why the FTC hasn't shut this number down. Also we need a class action suit against AT&T for invasion of privacy. - Val replies to Annoyed by thisThanks for the tip, I tried adding my number to the do not call list. If worse comes to worse, I will block.
- ValerieThey have called a number of times and when I finally picked up they knew our name and told us we "won a free security system"
I told them we did and they said they would remove us from their list.- Call type: Telemarketer
