They called my home number and left a message indicating that there's a warrant for your arrest and we need to call them back.  The phone message was broken-up and was hard to understand. When I called, they said their US TREASURY and there's a Law Enforcement action against you and your wife. When I asked what is this regarding,  he said that we're defrauding the IRS. He also stated that I've made error in 2011 tax return and I was delinquent. He said we've ignored the letter that was delivered to my house and we've ignored their phone calls.  And after his finish with this conversation, he'll notify the sheriff.  They'll put me and my wife in jail for 6 months.  I told him I've never received any warning letters from IRS or any government and legal system doesn't work like that.  There must be a proof that I was intentionally out to defraud the IRS or government, and I must be proven to be guilty before they can put me or my wife in jail.  Them, he said "Are you trying to teach me the law?"  He said he'll contact the sheriff and you can deal with the problem after you spend 6 month in the jail.  Then he hang-up the phone.
It's really frustrating that we have to waste our preciously limited time on this earth with this kind of scams.

Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

I had the same issue today. A man called my home and left a message that he was from the Treasury and I could be liable for not paying a fee owed to government. He also said that I should have my attorney ready to go to court if I did not return call and pay fee. The number was 213-471-7990. It sounded like a fake call.

Recently my family's medical information was breached through data- Anthem. I hope this is not the start of fraudulent activity.

The caller says he is Tom Cooper,but has Asian accent. States he is from Department of legal affairs. Says it is verbal notification on a very important issue. gets garbled up when it says what it is talking about. Some kind of inforcement action and what I should do.  Sounds fishy . If you do call number is busy. I haven't done anything to be in any kind of trouble. Has this happened to anyone else? Should I worry or forget about it.

Please see my post above.  One important thing to remember if these losers have any of your personal information such as your social security number, date of birth or drivers license make sure you register with identity protection notify the credit agencies as well as your banks!!

Same thing happened to me yesterday, that 213-471-7990 number rang and told my father he was from the US Treasury, and to have me call them back regarding a 'legal matter'

When my dad asked him for further details the caller got very vague and said I needed to call back.  What scumbags.

My daughter got a call on 4/01/15 stating he was Jerry Wilson from the US Treasury and we need to have an attorney call back. Clearly a scam as

Could'nt understand the female voice but it definitely said I must return the call or the situation will get worse!

I just got a call today from a guy with bad accent said his name was Adam and I have been ignoring their contacts and I need to get a lawyer to call him back.

Do what I just did...pull up a few random free wake up call services and put in this number and any other scammers.  If we all do this, they will be constantly called.  let's get them thousands or millions of calls to deal with.

I got a call from this person claiming the same thing.  He left a message on my answering machine Wednesday afternoon at 3:48pm.  He said his name is Mark Hansen (unable to clearly get his name from the recording).  He spoke deliberately and slowly, as if trying to speak clearly, but it was obvious that English is not his native language.  Below is my best attempt at transcribing the message left on my machine as accurately as I could.  I listened to this message close to 20 times, but still had a hard time deciphering some of the words.  I hope this helps...

"This message is intended for ***my full name***.  **My first name***, this is Mark ??Hansen?? with the Department of Legal Affairs at US Treasury.  I was trying to reach you in regards to a very important issue.  This is a verbal notification for?? you in regards to the ??enforcement?? action that have been ??target?? on your name.  My number is 213-471-7990.  Again my number is 213-471-7990.  If for any reason, you are ??repeat?? to call back, I would suggest you to have your ??written?? attorney to do it for you.  And to make calling this ??might?? end up in legal ??mess?? for you I hope you will make this right and call me back.  This is Mark Hansen with the department of legal affairs looking forward to speak to you at your ??best?? ..." <end of message>

When I first heard the message, I nearly crapped in my pants, but since I have a few decent brain cells still left in my head and I had the right mind to google the call back number, the number should have come back as a listing for US Treasury or Department of Legal Affairs, but it didn't.  I almost want to call back just to F* with them.  Just makes me angry knowing there are people out there praying on the innocent (not saying I am)...

Got the same call as someone else..this is Mark Hanson (in an Indian accent) calling from the Dept of Legal affairs Treasury depatment...blah, blah, blah..have  yourself call if you are too busy please have your attorney call us..blah blah, blah...I am going to report them to the police department and call the Department of Treasury...and anyone else that will harass them to shut down

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.

By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.

Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.

They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.

Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.

The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.

If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.

Same Indian accent scammer called me reading a poorly written script as described by others

Same message on my voice mail on April 6 from a man with a heavy accent, sounded more like Indian.

This is message is intended for ____. Hi this is Mark Hanson with the Dept of Legal Affairs at US Treasury. My boss is trying to reach you in regards to a very important issue. This is a verbal notification for ____ in regards to the law enforcement action that has been started on your name. My number is 213 471 7990, again my number is 213 471 7990. If for any reason you are busy to call back I would suggest you to have your retain? attorney to do it for you. As delaying calling us might end up into a legal mess for you.
