I keep getting calls from 2136314009, 2052164979, 8003221991, 9135435394, 8668314847, 8665754108, 3072174083, 4012133150, 8882569852, 9549265876, 2625814127, 4013962431, 8034549228, 5053402940, 7656377634, 6789289615, 3146651432, 3146651402, 3105792725, 31046651462, 8003221991. I have not answered any of these calls, and they never leave a message. My mom has answered a few times, but no one answers. I would appreciate if they would all stop calling me. I believe at least some may be about colleges, but I do not appreciate them calling every ten minutes or so from 8am until 9pm CT. One call should be enough, from one number.

What options does one have to defend themselves against intrusive callers?

    • The Do Not Call list (Federal or State)
Works, but is effective against ONLY "legitimate" telemarketers.  Political callers, surveys and some other callers are exempt.  Scammers ignore the DNC list.

    • Nomorobo
A system offered by some telephone providers, to help automatically block robocalls.  Google "nomorobo" to see if it works with your phone provider.

    • Shouting, screaming, swearing at the caller
Nope.  Does not stop calls.  May make you hoarse, and will disturb nearby people.

    • Call blocker app, device or service
Could be a good choice (even though the scammers can use fake phone numbers), and some apps are free!
Google "call blocker" for more information, or check your favorite online sales site for a list.
    http://gg.gg/blockers
Your phone provider may also offer blocking services.  Check their web page for information.

If you cannot use any of the above defenses, then:
    • Do not answer calls from unknown numbers ... let them go to voicemail or answering service
    • Do NOT return calls from unknown numbers!  All that does is verify your phone number!  And, in some cases, those return calls may cost $20 or more to complete.  http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/blog/one-ring-cel ... ing-your-wallet
    • If you have a "dumb" cell phone, assign the scammer's number to a group named "scammers" (or similar).  Then, assign a silent ringtone to that group.

These calls are being made not just from telemarketers but  you have signed up for something and haven't paid for it even though you never recieved anything from said buyer.... it is a scam.... for me it is a collection agency for periodicals.   damn periodicals called my cell phone one day gave me a deal over the phone I said yes as long as i was actually going to get the product they never sent me a thing.... so i never paid   I was supposed to get 2 magazines a month for a year... well I never got said magazines and now i'm pissed.  i'm not paying for what I never received. therefore if you can just block the number for 7 years.... screw lying thieving scoundrels...
