A male with an Indian (India) accent called and said that he was from the U.S. Treasury Department with the Legal or Illegal division. I wasn't sure I understood correctly and asked if he said Legal or Illegal department. His response was "Well what do you think?" I hung up because of his rudeness.

My father just received the same call threatening him that the authorities would be at his house in the morning because he owed taxes and wanted him to do a money gram for $4800.  Almost had it but my father called me first thank goodness!

July 8th 2015  a call from this number a white sounding woman stating I owe sales tax if I didn't call there would be a Warrent for my arrest! I am currently under probation for failure to pay sales tax here in Florida (which I paid back in the two months I've been on). the person I talked to was an Indian sounding male told me since I called my warrant was now active. my call was transferred to a second Indian male who told me the deputy was on the way.(they must have recording radio cause the deputy name  i heard is one that works my area the deputy said he would be here in 10min) the Indian male stated I was going to jail for 16 months a non bondable offense and that all my bank accounts and credit cards were locked which I don't have any.it should have been my first clue.then my call was transferred to Robert Matthew which told me that deputy  would be here in 20 minutes when I told him I wasn't home  so I could call my lawyer he Stated he had logged on to my location from my phone and that I was in fact in home.Robert Mathew said i owe $5,888 and if I could pay today cash he would hold the warrant. should have been my second clue also told me I can't talked to any third party about the situation. 3rd clue. Dumd me . I was freaking out thought it was a legitimate call scrambled to get the money from family for about 4 hours till I realized it was a scam. I think they got my information from court records because it's the same amount that I just paid the clerk of courts. I called the sheriff and they said it was a scam. so I call the number back today and they answered so I let him have it!hopefully nobody falls for it as long as I did they use my vulnerability and try to get something.I'm going to keep calling the number back and give them a hard time just for the fun of it!

July 09, 2015 Just received this recorded message exactly as I have written the quote.   "This is your final notice from the IRS, the nature and purpose of this call is to inform you that we have received a legal petition notice concerning a tax fraud against you.  Before the matter goes to the Federal Claims Court House or BEFORE YOU GET ARRESTED, please call immediately on our hotline division number, that is,  1-213-674-4949 make sure you call us as soon as possible."
The FBI needs to put a stop to this nonsense...I could only imagine someone like an elderly person receiving a threatening call like this and not knowing who to turn to for help....

Same here. I got a call (voice mail). When I tried to call back, I got their mailbox. After many tries which all went to their mailbox, I suspected it might be a scam. Google led me to this site.

A phone call came in from this number and I have a non-Las Vegas NV cell phone number (I used to live in Georgia and I still have that cell number).  They said I needed to contact the US Department of Treasury.  When I call them I indicated that I was with the Criminal Division of a local GA police department and the Indian male that I was talking to immediately hung up.  Wow!  What a scam!

I just received a call, 7/15/15 7:32am, on my cell phone from this number 213-674-4949 telling me it was the IRS fraud dept. I called back and talked to an man, sounded like he was Indian, who said his name was James Carter badge 10059. He told me that there was a warrant out for my arrest due to tax fraud on my 2010 & 2011 tax returns. He told me that I refused to sign for the certified letters that came to my house and that the police will be at my house today to arrest me. I told him how do I know you are telling me the truth I don't know you. I asked him what my address was or my SS# and I don't have that in front of me right now. Bottom line it sounded like a total scam, so I left him with send me a letter from the IRS and I will take care of it. He said you had your chance, you better get a lawyer.

Automated message with no information saying a claim is being filed against me for taxes owed and that I need to call them back. The IRS doesn't do things like this; please don't fall for this or give them any of your information.

i just received a voicemail from this #, stating i was gonna be arrested for tax fraud. there was a quick shock that came over me for about 5 seconds, but realized it had to be a scam, cause the irs doesn't call out to citizens. immediatley, i called the # back. the very "obvious" drunk indian guy asks me 5 tiimes if i am "my name". he then preceeds to tell me that, like everyone else, i was going to be arrested for tax fraud and to go ahead and get an attorney, unless i was gonna pay $4800 to him. then he started asking what i was wearing and telling me he was going to have me arrested naked (he kept repeating this over and over.) so, at this point, i made some pretty nasty comments...disgusting actually...i was even ashamed at some of the things i said.... but another thing that disturbed me ... i called to report it to my local fbi and the woman that answered didn't even want the phone number that they called from!!!!!

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone.  US mail only.   IRS does not file lawsuits.   Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes.  IRS has no powers of arrest.    If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job.  IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of  money.  IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone.   IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.    All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

Thank you everyone, especially Carol for taking the time to typing the exact same voicemail left on my answer machine. I'm thinking that this could be a result of the IRS record hack, picking on people who may have balances or payment plans. Anyway, I can breathe now and go on with my life. THANK YOU ONE AND ALL FOR POSTING HERE!!!!!
