getting calls ,then hang-up on answer,why?

Sounds like that number combination is from a political or advertising outfit

Keeps calling at all hours.

Received two calls this morning about 40 minutes apart starting at 9:00 AM.  Saw 213-888-8888 so I didn't pickup.  They hung up when my machine answered.  Another number added to my FCC Complaint list.

They say to hang on to speak then hang up

When you answer all you hear is silence. If you call back it doesn't even ring or give you a "not in service" number.

I got a call from this number this afternoon, Caller ID said "TTC LA".  I googled it, says it's LA County Treasurer and Tax Collector.  They asked for Carlos, i said "Sorry, you have the wrong number, no Carlos here". He said "Well Carlos owes me $3000 and they gave me this number to call."  I said "sorry they gave you the wrong number, there's no Carlos here."  And then they hung up.

next time tell them that if Carlos owes them 3k, give you 1k, and you will deliver carlos to him, then look in the phone book and find any carlos and give him that number. lol

I got a call today 1-7-2014. Talked to a lady who represents contractors. Wanted to know what my priority job would be if I were to make home repairs or upgrades. Told her my home is perfect as it is and hung up. I'm on the no-call list.

Sounds like thugs who just ask for info.

Got a call from them this am, when I asked..."may I ask who's calling" the woman said "you can ask all you want". I hung up and blocked the call. RUDE! Googled the number, La tax collector's office.

Got call and blocked this number instantly!

TTC LA, didn`t answer

OK...number was shown as above, said TTC LA.  Caller asking for "X", which happens to be the first name of my ex husband.  I said there isn't anyone here by that name, then thought to ask for a last name, which she then provided and I said well he's deceased by I'm his ex wife.  She didn't identify herself and said she'd make a note of it.   We have a house in LA County and became concerned based on the comments above. So I called the Tax Assessor's number directly as this one didn't work.  She did some looking at the property account and said everything was fine.  She also said that they HAVE to identify themselves after I explained what happened.  I said it was odd that a number from the county didn't work on redial.  I would usually block in this situation, but since the number and call caught me off guard, I won't, and I'm prepared to ask questions if there is another call.  And the Assessor's office has now been put on notice that their number or ID has been spoofed.  Will update further if I receive another call.  

Call today from 213-888-8888.  Didn't answer since it was an unfamiliar number.  I get these calls almost every day even though I am on the do not call list.  Apparently this is a number that belongs to the LA County Tax Collector but they are not the caller.  Someone must have hijacked their number.  
This is all very annoying!!!!

Same here, they just called, I noticed that odd looking number so I did not respond to call. When answering machine came on they disconnected call. We called the number back and NOTHING, no dial tone, no ringing, just silence.

Received a call and picked up, they said they were from home improvement. bunch of scamers if you ask me, from what I read here they change what they are.

Got a call from TTC LA thinking it was for a job opportunity and found it was a telemarketer. He didn't say who he was but offering home design and remodeling. I told him I was unemployed and not interested. He still insisted on offering his services and I had to hang up on him! Sorry I picked up the damn call and should have let it ring as I usually do!!!

somebody need to do something about this kind of calls; they have called three time in the roll with out answering the phone then hang out on you. When you call back, nobody answer or no respond on the other end; really annoy!
