Just got this.  Answered quietly as it's an unknown number and got static and a hangup (as opposed to a human asking, Hello?)

Unknown caller?  just pick up and don't say anything if your are curious, a human will talk a bot will wait and hang up.  This way, you don't confirm a valid phone number.

How do these people get our information? Drives me crazy. They called, didn't answer, no message left. After a Google search, found this site. I take measures to protect my information, clearly these people are getting my information illegally.

Yup. 213-954-0388 is the Verizon Wireless payment center number, but the call is not coming from them. I contacted Verizon and reported it to them. It is suggested anybody getting these scam/phishing calls report it to Verizon Wireless. If enough complaints are made, they might be able to catch the losers doing this.

They should just consolidate all of these scams to save time.  How about offering a free cruise, but only if you pay back taxes to the IRS in order to receive your free government grant, promise to bring the process server who's going to visit you at work, and pack your computer so the ship's purser can blow it up with a virus while you're sunning yourself on the Promenade Deck, enjoying those Pina Colada's you charged to your Green Dot card.

    Just about covers the gamut.

Had no telemarketing call from this number until I signed up for tdameritrade yesterday.  Could they be selling our numbers to make a profit? hrmmmm

I think it's a pretty safe bet to assume that just about everybody sells your information today.  As web users, we really need to get into the habit of reading privacy statements for anything we sign up for.  I'm as bad at skipping over "terms and conditions" as anyone, but I've become a lot more diligent as of late.  Look for any clause that indicates that by signing up for a site or service, you are giving them permission to share your information with third parties.  Sometimes these are referred to as "our marketing partners" or some other terminology.

Also, be weary of companies that offer you a paid product (like software) for free if you agree to take advantage of other "offers".  The original vendor, in this case, has made a deal with third-party vendors to subsidize the cost of the product in return for the original vendor swinging customers their way.  Might sound like a great deal, but now you're dealing with yet another vendor that might have privacy policies of their own.  Best to avoid those hassles and just pay full price.

Yup, was told I had won a cruise. after taking survey they hung up. I hope this site reports to the FCC. Or i'd like to see 60 minutes track them down and take them out to sea.

I didn't answer and no message was left.  I Googled the number and found it to be a phone number used by telemarketing to offer a free cruise for taking a survey.

I got the same call as the others concerning a trip if I complete a survey. I'm sorry I missed this one one, I was ready to troll them back with one of the many pranks I use for scammers.

I received the call from this number. I said hello but the caller did not say anything. I said you might have dialed a wrong number and hung up.
