- catwomanThis number left a message on my phone and said they were from investigator services and wanted to speak to me or my attorney regarding a criminal case and the lady stated it was in blank county where I live. My daughter received the same message on her voice mail regarding me. I called the number back and got a voice mail. They are from dallas texas. I told my daughter to put a block on the number on her phone. I am not involved in a criminal case and if I was I would have received court papers.I believe it is a scam to scare a person and to get mone.

- Tamianth replies to kellyVery smart! Kudos to you scamming the scammer! This is a very common extortion Scam.. and of course they break all the laws in regards. Foreign criminals have not a clue about our laws and how they work! Debt being a civil matter and not criminal.
Well Done!

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans
Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010 FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691
The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.
To report extortion scam operations, file reports with the FBI, your state attorney general and Department Of Justice,CFB,FTC & FCC..

http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/ - thisandthat| 4 repliesThese people call my in laws scared my wife stating that they wanted to arrest me for check fraud....it BS!! SCAM!! What can we do to make the calls stop?
- Caller: Won't state
- Call type: Debt collector
- thisandthat replies to thisandthatThey won't give any information at all stated original loan was $5000 but they would settle for $1600 but must pay immediately to avoid arrest. BS!!
- Elspeth replies to thisandthat| 2 repliesSee what Tamianth posted above. Glad that you knew it was a BS call! Also, you may have to buy a call blocker to stop all the calls - they're scammers so they don't give a flip about obeying the law!
- thisandthat replies to Elspeth| 1 replyThis is terrible do we just ignore when the call?
- Elspeth replies to thisandthatIn this case, yes. You can also get a call blocker (Amazon offers many) and block the calls. Or you could ask your phone service provider to block the calls for you - however, that usually means a monthly charge added to your bill.
