- Call type: Debt collector
- Average Joe replies to anthony lee johnsonWhen would a sheriff warn a subject of a possible warrant first of all, and do you have any type of unsettled debt with a payday loan? Notify the sheriff's department ASAP and find out if this bozo's case was legitimate. If the caller gave you any identification, be sure to ask the department if he's affiliated with them and tell them of your case. If he provided you with no identity or details on the matter, odds are it's a bogus extortion scam and you can disregard it.
- CWG40 replies to Michael Lee WeatherlyYes it is a scam. Party answers with an Indian accent claiming to be some sort of law firm. Flashing red light for scam. Do not return the call. Block and Ignore. Claims to be "American Law, Something-or-Other" Using some sort of device to modify his voice, but you can hear the Hindi accent.
Most likely a debt scam of some sort. - Resident47 replies to anthony lee johnsonSlightly rebutting Average Joe here, police have enough to do in matters of public safety without chasing down penny-ante debts. Debt collectors cannot farm out their duties to tax-funded law enforcement, and the police wouldn't want the job even they had it. The real police should be notified that idiots in a call center are posing as them, and then said idiots should be sued blind for violating your rights.
FTC alert: "Fake Debt Collectors"
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors - CWG40 replies to anthony lee johnsonIndian or Pakistani debt scammer. Will tell you he or she represents some local government agency. Hindi accent so strong you can cut it with a knife. Although they will sometimes try to mask their voices. But it never works.
Block and Ignore these calls.
Axiom:
If anyone with an Indian accent cold calls you and ( 1) threatens you or ( 2) offers you something, you know it's a scam--so and hang up immediately and block the call.
Nothing against Indians or [***]; that's just the way the world is right now.
Corollary
Never wire anyone money if you do not know them personally.
File a complaint with the FBI on their Internet Crime webpage http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx - Jody CoonrodI received a call from this number today he asked for $593.00 and I could pay with a money gram from Wal-Mart. If I didn't pay he was going to send the Sheriff from Peyton to arrest me. I tried to explain there were no Sheriff in Peyton. My son-n-law said it is a scam. He is gping to take care of it for me.
- Caller: American Law
- Call type: Debt collector
- Tejon345Be cautious cause alot of those bad people are out there to scared victims as ourselves out of their skin. Be alert but remember do not fall for there trap. First of all No law enforcement is going to call you for anything. If you don't get any letter or any kind of documents in the mail then it's a scam. When ever you get a call like that again and if they ask you to get to a money gram place or the closest place to wired money then tell them to go dig a hole and stick there mouth in it for trying to scam people for money.
