This person(s) is committing internet fraud. They are running automobile scams and in fact scammed a family member the first week of July 2008. Another number they are using is:  214-481-4193

This person is located in California. They are listing in Craigs List and selling fictitious cars to unsuspecting consumers. They try and have you send money via Money Gram and even send you a receipt/invoice from EBay. Yes, you heard that right, they send an invoice from Ebay. They convince people that Ebay will handle the transaction for Craigs List and con folks into believing this. They say the car will be delivered and that Money Gram will hold the money in escrow to make sure you are satisfied, and then go on to say that the money is refundable within a certain amount of days.

They use GMail addresses and have gone under such names as:

Robert Larson - robertlarson1122@gmail.com
Chad Maxwell - lt.chadmaxwell@gmail.com

The IP addresses are:

I am glad I found your warning. I just got an email from "Chad Maxwell" tonight, see his statement below.  This is for a 2005 Toyota XLE Camry listed on Craigslists.  I almost feft for it but I didn't because I knew when something sound too good to be true, it is a fake.  Should this be notified to some kind of authority that handle this type of fraud?

The email message I got from the scamper read
"The price is $4850 US Dollars.
I will have the car shipped from UK by an US Air Force cargo plane so there won't be any additional shipping costs. Also I will arrange for a truck to transport the car to your home address or, if you like, you can pick it up from the nearest airport in your area. The shipping will take 6-8 days, depending on your location.Shipping will be door to door,to your home address, somebody must be home when the car arrives to sign for the reception. The car will arrive with all the papers and documents required for registration and the keys. The clear title and the bill of sale will be already signed by me.

The payment will be done through eBay.You will send the money to eBay and as soon as the payment is confirmed they will notify me to proceed with the shipping. I will ship the car, you will receive it and you will have 5 days for inspection, both the car and the paperwork and the option to accept or reject the car.The inspection time period will begin as soon as you sign for receiving the car at your requested address.During all this time eBay will hold the money into a trust account. So, this is not a blind transaction, you can see the car before decided to buy it.If you are satisfied with the car and decide to keep it you inform eBay about this and they will release the money to me. If the car is not as advertised and decide not to keep it eBay will refund you the money, no questions asked, and shipping back the car will be my concern. I think this is more than fair for the both of us.Please take in to consideration that I will get paid only after you receive the car and make sure everything is as agreed.

If you agree with these terms and you have the money, send me your full name and the address where you want the car to be delivered to and I will initiate the transaction with eBay. You will receive all the transaction details from them.

I will appreciate an answer as soon as possible.

Thank you
Chad"

I had justinquired about the same listing on Craigslist for the same 2005 Toyota Camry from Lt. Chad Maxwell. I too thought it was odd that it was so inexpensive and that it was listed on Craigs list, but would be paid for through Ebay....as well as as soon as I had emailed him regarding the car and expressed my interest the add on Craigslist was gone.
There is another one I am concerned is a fraud as well that is for the same exact type of car, 2007 with 32,000 miles for 5,600.00 that claims he got a promotion at work which gave him a new car, so he did not need two. That doesn't explain why you would just give the car away for dirt cheap though.
Be careful. I was at the bank ready to draw the money out and then thought I should check it out a little more and came across this site.
Thanks.

I ALMOST fell for this, buying a 2003 Fat Boy Harley listed on Craigs List with the intended transaction going through Ebay.  He called himself Sgt. Andrew Bullock (sgt.andrewbullock@gmail.com) and everything else was almost word-for-word compared to the message below.  I really wish we could find out how to catch this guy - almost lost $4800 that I couldn't afford to lose!

I knew it, a 2005 loaded Camry for only $4,850.00.  They always say if it is too good to be true then it probably is.  I found his listing on craigslist too.  Said he was Lt. Chad Maxwell and was stationed in UK.  What an a*#hole.  I'm glad I found this posting...THANK YOU!!!!

I fell hook line and sinker for this. Does anyone have advice for how to nail this guy? I've contacted the police, but what else can be done?

Try also forwarding any relevant emails on to eBay - they only may be interested insofar as their organization is being falsely represented.  Doesn't mean they can do much about it, but it couldn't hurt.

Aside from contacting your local police, if you know about where you sent the money, find any and all law enforcement there and contact them as well.  National law enforcement bodies included - if it's gone to the UK or has anything do to with money crossing state lines in the US, it's a federal matter.

We got one from wendybarneswb@msn.com Selling through Craigs List. 2006 Land Range Rover Supercharged for $17,100 (los angeles)  They said they would use ebay motors.  However when the invoice came over it was from invoice@payment-purchase.com The fax number they said to fax verification of wiring money was 1(214)481-4193.

Total SCAM!!!!  If they say they are using e-bay than per ebay If an offer is legitimate, you'll find a copy of it there. Also, genuine offers never tell you to email the seller at a different email address.

I sent to him money for Volskwagen Jetta (4900$)- September 2007 to Italy- his name was Srg. Wilson. He's now also selling motorcycles on craigslist. We found his ad tonight, were looking into it, and his language via email wasn't right and then we found out he's in the 'U.K'.... I work for law enforcement, so we're going to reporting him, and hopefully they can do something...

If not, here is one of the scams he's currently running:

sgt.allenporter@gmail.com
This is the craigslist ad:
http://austin.craigslist.org/mcy/870591252.html

And here is the email he sent my boyfriend:
Hello,

Thank you for your interest in my bike.This is a 2003 Harley-Davidson Softail FatBoy Custom,clean title,only  7,425 miles on it,VIN# : 1HD1BMY123Y050969.

Here you can find more pictures of the bike: http://s539.photobucket.com/albums/ff357/03FatBoyCustom/
(if the above link does not work copy and paste it into a new web browser window)

The bike has been well taken care of, always kept in the garage.Flawless exterior condition,no scratches and no dents. It has never been involved in an accident. The engine starts and drives like new and the paint looks great. It comes with US clear title which will be signed and notorized in the buyer's name.Have original manuals and all keys.

I'm an US Air Force Sgt. currently stationed in United Kingdom. The bike is here with me. It was bought in the US and shipped to Europe, but it was never permanently registered here, the bike is still registered in the US.The bike is for sale locally as well, but there are slim chances of this to happen. In order to be able to register this bike here in UK the buyer would have to pay very high import/custom taxes that will double the price. So I decided to sell the bike back in the US.

The final price is $4,800.00 including shipping from UK to the US and delivery to your home address.

So if you decide to buy this bike or need further information please get back to me as soon as possible.

Thank you and have a great day
Sgt.Allan Porter
